No question the surface isn't up to scratch but it's interesting that neither Sydney FC nor the Waratahs are raising concerns about anything but the playing surface. Are rugby league fans becoming that precious that bogans from the riff can travel across Sydney and complain about having to sit on grass for 2 hours to watch the footy? I kid, because away fans don't go to Brooky. However, apparently Manly's lack of travelling fans is at fault for low crowds at other grounds.I was told earlier in this thread that Brookie's surface is just fine and that we have a tough code and players should just put up with it.
So where does watching a Roosters game at ANZ with 80% of the seats empty stand against watching a game at " a half full local park" (or indeed a packed stadium like Belmore)?Because clubs could earn more money from their 12 home games than they get from the NRL grant?
Because watching a sport on tv in a full modern stadium as opposed to a half full local park is more attractive?
Because we want the sport to be seen as more than some local suburban cup comp?
I guess it shouldn't be surprising that a guy that doesn't own something is happy to give it away.

Let's be fair here, Sydney FC and the Waratahs are playing a solitary competition match each at the venues, and the former's agreement to play there was only reached a few weeks ago when Champions League commitments forced their hand. I doubt either would be splitting hairs over attendance concerns for a single match. No question the surface isn't up to scratch but it's interesting that neither Sydney FC nor the Waratahs are raising concerns about anything but the playing surface. As for Perth Red's constant attacks on Brookvale Oval; I'd rather have a team to follow than a shiny new stadium with no team.

Call people "precious" all you want but they expect better than places like Brookvale. Why do you think Leichhardt only gets 3 games a year now?
As for the travel complaints, it's not exactly easy to get to, find a park near or get public transport to, is it?

Nobody but Manly plays 9-10 matches per season, in winter, at Brookvale. The Waratahs played there last year so if it was that bad they wouldn't be coming back. Plenty of other options in NSW.
They have moved four games away from the traditional grounds (plus an additional two to alternate markets this season and last) for years now because they know that venues like Leichhardt (and even Campbelltown) can't cater to 6 or more matches.Partly because it's a joint venture, 3 games in Campbelltown too. Each to give the fans of each area some home games, then 6 games in a central location. Not really comparable but you have a history of clutching at straws so this should be no different.
I don't understand the reasons Manly fans don't travel in great numbers to away games. I know for sure they aren't the only club who has this problem though.Right, but it's so much easier for Manly fans to get to away games? I've never really had much trouble finding a parking spot and it's always been free. Much better than parking near ANZ stadium.
As for finding a parking spot - if you turn up nice and early you're fine, but anything inside an hour before kickoff and you're almost certainly walking anywhere up to a kilometre or two. There's no doubt access and transport needs to be improved for the venue.

Mayor’s bizarre claim over shoddy ground surface
Dean Ritchie, The Daily Telegraph

Despite photographic evidence showing the ground surface to be shoddy and dangerous, Northern Beaches Council mayor Michael Regan has claimed Brookvale Oval has a “quality playing field.”
It is a declaration that has quietly stunned officials from Manly, the field’s major tenant.
The Daily Telegraph revealed that Manly, the NSW Waratahs and Sydney FC have all expressed concerns about the substandard playing field.
The Waratahs play Wellington Hurricanes this Saturday night in a Super Rugby match at Brookvale. Manly has a trial against Cronulla on Saturday week with Sydney FC to contest an A-League game at the venue on March 17.
The Daily Telegraph published photographs on Monday, which clearly showed the ground surface was poor through a series of bare patches spread across the playing surface.
“Brookvale Oval is a quality playing field and we are excited to be hosting some top games from a number of codes in the coming months,” Regan said.
“There are a few patches of turf which have died off over summer and it was always our intention to replace them in time for the Waratahs match this weekend.
“We have full confidence the playing surface will be in top shape not just for this game but for all the matches coming up.
“We will continue to liaise with the Waratahs and the other codes this week.”
Manly has been forced to cancel several off-season training sessions at Brookvale for fear of long-term player injury.
When contacted about the ground, Manly coach Des Hasler said: “I know council would be doing everything it can to ensure they maintain the standards necessary for sporting sides to not only participate at Lottoland but to make sure the ground can attract professional sporting sides to the northern beaches and its constituents.”
Oh wow.
So who here is going to be heading to the opening match? Or who will be a regular here with their club?
was that by choice? My seats are at the back of section 118.
