Four of us have made the brave decision to travel up to watch origin at anz this year. I’ll be interested to see what they think. I can’t stand the place.

I found it great for the GF, and absolutely terrible for a Souths game in the rain with 9k in it, one of the worse professional RL experiences ever and I’ve been to some dire grounds in my time.
! I’m sure for origin it will be fine,

Plans to upgrade North Ipswich Reserve to a 20,000 - 30,000 seat stadium. Titans should look to spilt home games between Gold Coast and Ipswich and become the SEQ Titans.

The ten million is for the first stage. The stadium would be done in five stages and it will only be given the green light if the A-League and NRL grant licenses to the Ipswich expansion bids for both competitions respectively.

A 30k stadium for an Ipswich NRL team would be amazing. Hopefully Perth Glory's ground gets similar government love to aid a WA team as well.

A 30k ground in Ipswich would be a great venue for a west-Brisbane side and be a sufficient capacity for it to use week-to-week. I like it.

I think it’s got about zero chance of happening, but I like it.

I don't know. Nrl has been getting love with stadium funding lately. This stadium might be helped built with funding help from an Ipswich A-League bid's private consortium as well.

It's unlikely but not impossible.

They would be better off putting 150 mill into upgrading Suncorp to 60k with club mode. Have two more Brisbane sides play out of there.

Is there still an event cap on Suncorp? If so, won't a second stadium of some sort be necessary in Brisbane at some point?

I wonder how much of this is Ipswich Council trying to counter the money that has been spent on Dolphin Oval. It's positioning itself to be the ideal venue for a second Brisbane A-League club, and a base for an NRL club who could also play 2-3 low drawing matches out of it per season whilst playing the remaining 9 plus semis at Suncorp.

Some talk of Brisbane bidding for the 2032 Olympics, that could help get a second ground over the line.

I heard something about Los Angeles becoming the permanent base for the olympics which makes sense because they are a disaster for cities.

It’s definitely getting harder to get cities to bid, the IOC was encouraging Brisbane to.

They’re trying to get cities that have a significant amount of the infrastructure already in place.

Yeo that was the argument for LA, it is the perfect city for it and everything is in place. Probably the argument against it is it would reduce the bribes that the OIC committee get.

NQSstadium design app launched to give public new look at North Queensland Stadium

Sunday, May 19, 2019

The North Queensland Stadium has reached a construction milestone with 50 per cent of the main build works now completed and to celebrate, the nqstadium app has been released on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Minister Mick de Brenni said the app will give fans the chance to experience the stadium before completion and ahead of the start of the 2020 NRL Premiership Season.

“In designing the stadium, the project team have used Building Information Modelling (BIM) to visualise spaces within the stadium to ensure the right balance between elegant architectural design and practical functionality is achieved,” Mr de Brenni said.

BIM digital representations of structures, 3D modelling and virtual reality have allowed the designers to work closely with the managing contractor Watpac and other key end users to identify and address potential issues before the stadium is constructed.

The app, developed by principal consultant Cox Architecture and the Department of Housing and Public Works, showcases the design through a diorama image that users can rotate on their mobile devices.

Hotspots on the image can be clicked to access artist’s impressions, 360° images and “before and after” sliders that compare the existing 1300SMILES Stadium at Kirwan to the new stadium adjacent to the CBD.

Voice overs and on-screen text provide descriptions throughout the app.

The North Queensland Stadium is a joint project between the Queensland Government, Australian Government and the Townsville City Council, and is supported by both the National Rugby League and the North Queensland Cowboys. The stadium forms part of the Townsville City Deal signed in December 2016.
