Australian soccer needs to forge closer ties with southeast Asia. Expand the A-League into Singapore and Hong Kong. The local game needs as much capital as it can get and there's little left over for them here, so go to markets that have it in spades. Singapore and Hong Kong need to expose their players to a higher quality competition like the A-League if they want to rise up the rankings.

The A-League is currently ranked 23rd of all Asian Football (Soccer) competitions, with Thailand 11th, Hong Kong 11th and Vietnam 14th.

Australian clubs have also played in the AFC since 2005, and so far won the title only once.

Eight members from Australia's 2022 World Cup squad are based in the A-League.

You are conflating national teams with professional domestic competitions. Do you, for example, think the Italian Serie A is weaker then the A-League, because they didn't qualify for the WC?

The ranking or strength of a countries national team is in no way linked to their domestic league quality.

The A-League is in no position to expand into Asia, as its quite sub standard in terms of quality, sponsorship and broadcast revenue compared to most of the Asian Leagues

I'm doing nothing of the sort.

Australia had eight A-League players in their squad who would be better than anyone from Singapore and Hong Kong. The A-League is not a low quality league. In terms of quality it would be better than many of the Asian competitions that pay more money for substandard players.

Tony Sage wants the A-League to expand into southeast Asia and at one stage he was asked to move the Perth Glory to an Asian Super League.

Singapore and Malaysia have expressed interest in joining the A-League.

Numbers on national players are not a measure of a competition's quality.

There is clear empirical evidence that it's not stronger then most Asian countries domestic competitions.

And it's clear it does not generate enough revenue to be in anyway enticing to Asian countries. Any comp that averages less then 10k isn't in any position to expand internationally

Back to stadiums!
So fingers crossed penrith goes ahead where does that leave the NRL in regards to needed stadium improvements
Canberra - needs a new stadium
Auckland - probably just needs an upgrade
Dragons- WIN should be priority upgrade for them
Tigers - who knows what they want to do?
Bulldogs - presumably they'll stay at the vastness sht hole
Souths- Presumably they'll jump ship to Allianz when opportunity arises
Sharks - probably lipstick on a pig and keep at one of the worse grounds in the comp
Manly - see above
Dolphins - Hopefully they are popular in Brisbane and play all their games at Suncorp in the future
Perth - if get admitted needs an upgrade

so 8 clubs sorted at state of the art grounds, 1club new stadium, 8 clubs to move or get improvements, and one future one hopefully to get an upgrade. Still along way to go for the game!

Best solution for the game is a new stadium for Penrith, Canberra and Perth, with a grandstand built along the eastern terrace at the Wollongong Showgrounds. Dragons play eight games at Wollongong Showgrounds and four games at SFS.

The plan should be to kick out Cronulla, Wests, Manly and Canterbury as they're small clubs with no future. The annual reports for Canterbury and Cronulla prove their football businesses are unviable because they have small fanbases.

The likelihood of this coming to fruition is nil because the game is run by hillbillies.

Is a Penrith Stadium really a good ROI?
If we work off the premise that every club should be playing out of a modern stadium fit for a top class competition, and that Penrith is too far from other stadiums to share then Id say yes.
Now if a company that is turning over $120mill revenue a year should be getting a tax payer fully subsidised venue is a different question. Clubs here tend to have a hand out mentality rather than investing in their own infrastructure.

Very true. In terms of world football, the big leagues are the EPL, the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga. They are the financial powerhouses of that sport, and where most of the big name players want to play. In fact maany of the biggest financially speaking soccer leagues are in Europe.

If you think Manly, Cronulla, Canterbury and Wests aren't small clubs then explain why they make little money from football operations and have tiny fan bases?

Go on, put your money where your mouth is.

Greenberg asked the Sharks to explain why they shouldn't be relocated to another city when they were in debt.

Can you tell me how soccer become a popular game in every country?

When I asked you to explain how soccer became popular in Asia you said it's played everywhere, which proves you're an idiot. There was a time when soccer was only played in England, yet it spread all around the world in about 50 years.

Care to explain that, or will you just put your tail between your legs and run because that's what you do when you've been owned?

A further 12 players in the squad also played in the A League. Maybe the standard of the A League has been underestimated. And yet those group of players were so close to equalising right at the death in the round of 16.

If the A League survives and thrives, then the NRL will only benefit, as it would have another code to walk side by side in terms of pushing for stadium funding.

I really think the A-League should look at axing Central Coast, Macarthur and Western Utd. Invite teams from Singapore, Hong Kong and maybe NZ2.

International players who've played in the A-League say its quality is better than many people think.
