‘Not bad’ doesn’t justify $3b. Matildas drew a lazy 47000 a few weeks back.
That’s a fair point

With the bandwagon the Matildas have now the ffa calling for a new Suncorp would help the pr battle a lot

I fear the state govt is already committed to a bad decision as I saw a quote from the premier hinting at him wanting to build a new afl stadium

While Suncorp being upgraded should be the preference given its extra use.

What makes it so good is how close you are to the action. Not adding an athletics track keeps that and concerts using the other venue keeps usage off Suncorp and allows more RL there.

Magic Round is only locked in until 2027. The NRL should be using that like the GF in NSW to ensure that Suncorp gets something during this process

I should clarify. Moore Park isn’t hard to get to. It’s just not convenient to get to due to how extremely East it is in relation to wider Sydney. It’s so time consuming.

Allianz has the light rail a 10 min walk to leave on. These hold 400 people

Accor has a Train 10 min walk to leave on. These hold 1000 people

Not only holds more but depending on where you go you don't need to change.

Having 70k leave Allianz would be a huge shitfight. 40k is bad enough

Just need to upgrade Accor so it is a better viewing experience

He’s lieing it doesn’t “sell out all the time”

And the previous proposal was to have Suncorp hosting the major opening and closing ceremonies

Anything more than a 30k rebuild is a total waste of time for both cricket and the other sport

Magic sells out every year so does origin so do many club games

They should learn from Sydney what a white elephant a 50k plus oval is
Assume your white elephant is ACCOR - Sydney has cricket and its AFL team playing at a different oval stadium, whereas the cricket and Lions will play at the new Brisbane stadium, so the situation are completely different.

And the Lions had eight sellouts last year (a similar number to Suncorp). And whilst that doesn’t mean they need a 60k stadium (they don’t), it does suggest that a 45k - 50k stadium will get good use.

This is the choice Brisbane has:

Spend billions on a temporary athletics track for the Olympics.
Or
Spend a few billions more for a stadium that can host Olympic athletics, cricket and wbtiktok's sport.

Whatever way you look at it billions are going to be spent because when you commit to an Olympics you commit to spending money.

So a similar number of sellouts as the broncos

Then there’s the dolphins origin and magic round

lol

Once their crowds go back to 19k it’s going to look awful in a 60k stadium

Various governments were begged for money for the ground at Springfield as the saviour of the lions

How many new grounds do they need

Got to love these interstate guys that have no idea about travelling around the city.

Olympic Park needs a bit of nightlife but getting in and out is much better to all of Sydney

SOP is already perfect for major events. It can easily handle 120k crowds.

once the new metro line is in place, itll be 10 minutes to parra and 25 to the CBD. I dont think anyone can debate its position as the major events location.

With the new housing already going up (so a decent amount of bar/restaurant is inevitable) all that is needed is a decent stadium

SOP works well in major events mode with direct trains from Central and Parramatta.
As for the new metro,it’s actually 5 mins from Parramatta and 15min from the CBD
I mentioned earlier,it will be quicker to get to Accor from Parramatta station than Parramatta station to Parramatta Stadium

It will be interesting to see if it's faster to catch a metro to Homebush or light rail to Moore Prk from central

Major Events yes. I went to a Kings game the other week and it was the only thing on. The place was like a ghost town.

That is what Allianz and CommBank have over it and what is lacking more so than the upgrade.

IF the govt ever decides to upgrade it. They will want regular NRL games as part of the justification and a better vibe will help get people to random NRL games there

Actually Metro west wont be direct to Central.
They are building the new Hunter street metro in the CBD.
This will create one huge underground station linking Wynyard Train,Martin Place Train/Metro and Hunter Street Metro.

SOP is definitely better than what it was a few years ago.
I only went to origin this year(i dont live in Sydney) and it was quite vibrant with bars and many eating places to choose from.
Replace Accor with a 70,000 + seat stadium with intimate mode and retractable roof.
The 2019 plan wouldve been ideal

Being a Panthers fan. I have been to the last few GF's there. A few big gigs like the Fooeys and it is great. Food trucks, Bands/DJ's playing music and a great vibe.

Outside of a major event though it is total silence you get off the train ( Or get a great spot in P1 which alone tells you what you are walking into ) and it is like a scene out of the Walking Dead and lifeless.

If you can get some people going there for things outside of an event. Some nice restaurants etc that will flow back across to the footy and make upgrading the Stadium a no brainer
