Save Victoria Park protest happening this morning. The campaign is ramping up.

I’m sure most of the people turning up wouldn’t have stepped foot into that park for the last 6 months. The putt putt, driving range and dining venues might get a bit of use, but most of the park doesn’t see much activity. It certainly didn’t get much use as a golf course. If there is something inner Brisbane does well, it is Nimbyism.

70k is too small for major events.
GF, Origin, Internationals of all codes, marquee games, all need a bigger capacity.

I disagree. Sydney is not sports mad enough to justify a stadium any bigger than 70k. That would be perfect.

Springfield is a training facility, with a single grandstand that holds 650. Most/all other NRL/AFL clubs have similar, mostly paid for by state governments and contributed to by local government that want an extra 200 well paid people working in their area. It has nothing to do with the stadium for the Olympics. A bigger or new rectangular stadium is not required for the Olympics, that is why is is not near the top of the agenda.

The Gabba needs replacing within a decade anyway, so by combining that with the Olympic build it will actually be cheaper in the long run and leave more money for other projects.

I think we all agree that 60k is excessive. 45k - 50k is perfect.

A new or upgraded rectangular stadium for Queensland’s number 1 sport will be a vote winner and will come soon enough after the Olympics.

Rebuild the current stadium or give it a paint job and use the money saved on the stadium that Queensland really needs

Either way, they’re locals. Unlike the pressure groups advocating for a stadium. And it doesn’t diminish the notion of giving up urban green space for greedy corporate interests.

The arguments for a new cricket stadium get more and more ridiculous. Darren Lehman best answer on ABC radio yesterday was because the change rooms are smelly after the AFL season.

These groups are organised and will only gain momentum as there presents an opportunity to hurt the LNP, who are loathed in inner Brisbane.

The LNP needs to win back Brisbane and Ryan at the next election to form government. A fight like this will be a rallying point against that front. Absolute bread and butter for the likes of the Greens.

There was another 10 concerts at Accor in 2024 attracting 80K plus each concert

They've been told for 23 years that Brisbane will be an "AFL town" one day, they are getting impatient.

You know when people go to concert a lot of the crowd is on the field and not the stands ?

Why does that matter?
Probably 10,000 end seats lost due to the stage and they get it back on the field.
Still 70,000 people in the seats.

Surely it makes sense that Cricket gets a decent fit for purpose stadium in Brisbane with a capacity of 50000? The fact the fumblers gets an advantage is irrrlevant. They’ll never fill it. The Gabba’s capacity is less than Adelaide and Perth. So I see crickets point. That should not affect anything to do with us. If anything we should be working with the rah rahs and FA to ensure the premier stadium is rectangular. I’ve no doubt Vlandys is already looking at this.

Rubbish. Accor is filled to capacity several times a year. If (when) it is knocked down and rebuilt it will more than likely have a capacity around the 90K range. A world class rectangular stadium at Olympic Park would definitely see a crowd increase. The same way the SFS and Parramatta did when they were rebuilt.

It will definitely not be made smaller.
