Reckon Suncorp is still at chance at getting that upgrade ?

The lobbying by the fumblers has been incessant. Nobody from league seems to be making an issue of it (Ben ikin or Peter Beattie would be perfect to lobby for it)
Regretfully no, it's not looking good now. The party now in charge is by it's nature corrupt (children and grandchildren of Newman and Joh), and so big dollars and friends will benefit somehow. They are highly susceptible to the campaign being waged by cricket and ozzie rules.

We are hamstrung by the issues you mention. Our leadership (V'Landys) is Sydney-centric and doesn't seem to understand or care about the need for a larger stadium in Brisbane. Nor do they seem to understand that the campaign being waged is to inhibit investment in a rectangular stadium for a generation or more. There is no concept of the proxy war being waged on this matter.

No coordination between the rectangle sports is another shortcoming. Soccer are out there advocating for their own facility at Perry Park. Not seeing the forest for the trees unfortunately.

I think a rebuilt Gabba is likely. There is too much investment in Cross River Rail station at that location. Plus I think the Victoria Park fight will get huge in the lead-up to the federal election.

Pvl is distracted with Perth and png

But he’s dropped the ball not being involved in this earlier

I still think post Olympics a fully rebuilt Suncorp is on the cards especially if Brisbane three comes in

A 30k brand new Gabba would kind of be ok. If they do go for 50k it’s going to look awful with 20k or less in there for games

No point slapping lipstick on Suncorp. Hopefully one day we get a soccer world cup and it can be rebuilt as a 75k new stadium.
It’s strongly arguable cricket needs a refurbished bigger stadium so that will happen. But that would have to be it for them for a few decades. Suncorp will do for a few more years and then we get the stadium we deserve.

Again, no way Brisbane, Sydney or any city should have to wait for FIFA to show up to get the facilities they need. Next chance Australia will have to bid for a World Cup would be 2046.

60k+ Suncorp, 80k+ Accor (rebuilt) & 40k Newcastle should all be getting done within the next 10 years, not waiting 22 years in the slim hope FIFA won’t just go with the Oil money option again.

When it comes to lobbying governments for stadium upgrades the afl is light years ahead of the nrl

Basically any stadium project they have wanted has been granted (Springfield, Tasmania, Etihad upgrades etc)

Meanwhile the nsw govt hasn’t done the stadium deal yet for the grand final and is doing a budget stadium at Penrith when it should’ve been 800 million

Brookvale shark park Newcastle Wollongong and cambelltown all need money and might waste a few hundred million on a roof for Accor when the whole thing should be pulled down and done properly

Suncorp can get stretched out to close to 60k via the corners of the stadium having space to be built out to provide more seating in the top tiers.

However the existing internal awning would need to be demolished.

Little known fact is that Stadiums Queensland via PDT Architects designed it to allow provisions for future expansion (up to extra 6.5-7.5k).

ARUP engineered it and the joint Multiplex & Watpac venture built it as such.

Issue is the costs to demolish those mentioned sections to further build are pretty hefty. I don’t think it was ever intended to go through with it but it was there “just incase” and if it does, it’ll give them a reason to also throw a roof on.

You're a genius for working all that out.
