Souths should be playing some games there but Politis reigns supreme.

Has nothing to do with Politis, and everything to do with the boob of a Souths CEO who signed a long term deal to play at Accor even after it was announced it wouldn't be getting any upgrades. He's been publicly whingeing about it eversince that the NSW Government should let them out of the deal so they can move to the SFS.

How much longer do they have to stay at Accor?

Two stadiums couldnt handle the traffic of RL RU and soccer, concerts and motorsports

They can't even work out how to play 2 local NRL teams out of the SFS
Don’t forget the SCG. They could have more concerts and motor sports there.

Whilst playing all games at the two best stadiums would increase crowds significantly, Sam is right, it would be boring.

Suncorp in its current form can’t be upgraded to 65k. That would require a complete demolition and rebuild.

However in its current form it can get very close to 60k. As previously explained, there are provisions for this. It requires the demolition of the existing internal awning with the stadium corners getting infilled with more seating.
I Just re-listened to an interview with the Suncorp CEO From early 2024. The upgrade cash would be spent on three things - more seats, replacing the tiny video screens, and improving access.

The best place to install new screens would be in two of the corners. So you could add maybe 3k new seats in the other corners, plus 2k seats where the current screens are. That gives you 57k - 58k.

Or, if funds are limited just add screens in the corners, and seats where the screens now are. Around 55k. This could be done for not much more than the cost of installing screens.

Correct, that works for minor seating upgrades. The major seating upgrades in working with pre-existing structural provisions require substantial more re-work and thought.

Eliminating internal awnings due to the awning supporting columns locations coming down on the 4 stadium corners. The area where “major” seating upgrades were to occur.

New awning supporting columns would require to come up externally (where pre existing pylon foundations and footings are present) with a new awning being built.

Extension of the existing shear/blade walls located internally in the corners of the structure to take extra weight of the built in stadium corners.

New pre-cast tilt panels connecting to the existing corner tilt panels. These also act as the perimeter walls for the stair wells.

New concrete slabs built in combination with elements of structural steel to support further seating in corners. These slabs being tied between new tilt panels and columns for slabs support coming up via pre existing provisions in existing slabs below - which also tie back into new shear/blade walls extensions to take the extra weight.

Entire new lighting layout required in new awning.

Bit to it. Costly. Provisions exist but I don’t believe they were ever intended to really be acted on.

You seem to know your stuff. By ‘awnings’ do you simply mean ‘roof’?

Do you think that the existing awnings could support new screens in the corners?

Yep, it’s the section of roofing.

I mean with how light new screens are (in comparison to older styles) and the fact they would be situated where the awning columns are located (without knowing specifically what extra weight load those steel columns and in turn awnings can bare) I don’t think it would be an issue that sound engineering couldn’t resolve. But I imagine they would need to tucked back towards the columns as I’m not 100% sure they could be cantilevered if they were on the face of the awnings. It’s a good question you pose.

Then you rip out 25% of seating for media groups
