Heard today swans are pushing for 700m for an SCG upgrade..

To move up to 64000 seats and knock down O'Reilly stand etc
Recommending to government this should be prioritized over Accor as the stands are 35 years old

insecurity is mostly a NSW thing

$1 billion in upgrades needed at the SCG and Accor Stadium

Leading community figures are warning the NSW Government that Sydney risks losing major events unless desperately needed upgrades occur at the SCG and Accor

Powerful sport and business voices are warning the NSW Government the state risks losing major events unless it invests in stadium upgrades likely to cost $1 billion.
Without significant redevelopment of the Sydney Cricket Ground – and potentially putting a roof over Accor Stadium – community leaders fear the state will be the losers in a nationwide assets arms race.

Brisbane is poised to announce a new stadium for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, Tasmania is building a covered stadium to house an AFL team in 2028, Optus Stadium in Perth opened just six years ago and Adelaide Oval completed a massive overhaul in 2014.

Venues NSW has an SCG review underway where the focus of a master plan will be the O’Reilly, Brewongle and Churchill stands, all opened between 1980 and 1986 and in dire need of rebuilding.

The prospect of also expanding the Trumper Stand in an effort to crank up capacity from 47,000 to around 60,000 would likely raise the overall cost to $700 million.

And the SCG upgrade will happen which will no doubt upset the peanuts contesting the Bestest rugby league fan eva!!! trophy.

The stands were put up haphazardly, the last 12 years ago. Would be great to do something funky but it will probably be conservative and bi lo.

We’re at that wonderful time when the federal pollies flash our cash around in the hope of keeping their jobs. Any chance some of the slush will find its way to any stadium projects I wonder?

maybe the Perth hbf park upgrade might get some fed assistance?

The SCG is perfectly fine and should slot well and truly behind Stadium Australia if common sense prevails in terms of having money spent on it.

T Goon has some improvements for the 400m:
The track is 10 metres long and littered with lego and matchbox cars. The fans are allowed to throw rotten fruit and ninja stars at you as you run 40 laps.

Did I mention you have to be naked?

So they are using temporary seating at Sunshine Coast and maybe Barlow park for the Olympic Games together with permanent stands

The athletics stadium should’ve been 30k permanent capacity and the rest temp seats

The 3 billion saved could’ve gone to a 70k new rectangular stadium

The qld opposition are making a huge issue of this with spending on hospitals being canned for it so the govt might end up being one term
