So for all the participants in the bestest rugby league fan eva!!! trophy, in the 2 states where rugby league is dominant

Since 2000, 5 new rectangular stadiums: Moore Park, Parramatta, Penrith, Townsville, Brisbane.

Since 2000, 2 new oval stadiums, Sydney Showground, Brisbane (planned).

Throw in a brand new rectangular stadium in rugby league outpost Melbourne.

Not too shabby. But of course I'm not in the competition to prove myself the bestest rugby league fan eva!!!, I'm just pointing out facts.

So you're saying in the 2 states where rugby league is dominant, there are more rectangular stadiums than oval stadiums where AFL is a minor sport? As if it's some major achievement for NRL.

By the way you missed significant upgrades to SCG that have been made since 2000 and the fact the AFL lobbied for Accor to be made configurable to AFL mode which they used all throughout the 2000s, so much so that they had some ideas to buy the stadium outright. So really it's like 5 new rectangular stadiums, 4 new ovals or significant AFL-specific upgrades made to existing ones.

Not too shabby for AFL a minor sport in the northern states.

It’s pretty weird someone on a league website saying they prefer an oval to be the best and biggest ground in Brisbane but here we are

The fact is the AFL are over indexing on taxpayer expenditure for stadiums and their own egotistical views of being a national sport, and the NRL is under indexing. When you throw in the cricket argument, cricket only need these stadiums for a few days of the year so it's hardly a scenario of 'cricket wants a flash stadium and there's a massive need for it' argument that some are making.

Since the govt owns both other than spite what’s the deal put of letting them out of the lease so they can move to Allianz

Accor is a white elephants. South’s getting 10k there won’t change that perception

Its ironic the NSW govt was going to spend $810mill back in 2018 (probably $1.5bill today) to sort out Accor and the NRL sabotaged it in favour of suburban upgrades in the name of 'tribalism' (which never happened anyway).

re why they may want to hold Souths to contract is Allianz already has lots of usage, and if no one plays in Accor it becomes a white elephant to maintain with little usage.

The more people that attend their stadiums the better for the govt

South’s moving to Allianz would increase their crowds by at least 50 percent more patronage

Not if it leaves a stadium you are paying maintenance on hosting no games. It only benefits NSW Govt if they can charge Souths a lot more rental fee for Allianz over Accor.

Yeh the rents are higher at Allianzz. They were given a reduced rent to stay there. They’ve worked out even with higher rents they can make way more being close to home

And the thing about maintenance is stupid they make more revenue out of Allianz which they can use.

NSW govt mainly makes money from the rental it charges club for usage. So lets say Allianz cost $300k to rent and Accor $200k. That is a plus $100k for Govt but it means they are still maintaining Accor with no revenue coming in and lose value in Accor memberships.

I am also guessing Souths will be angling just to move the contract as is to Allianz, not renegotiate a more costly one. Dont get me wrong they should be at Allianz, but I can see why NSW govt is digging its heals in.

What are you on about no revenue ?

And what’s to stop them taking the extra money they make on Allianz and use it for maintenance

This doesn’t make much sense. The maintenance costs of Allianz aren’t going to go up due to 2 clubs using it. Will probably be a slight decrease in maintenance for Accor or no change at all and overall revenue for the Government will increase. The only negative for the Government is that Accor will look like a complete white elephant, only getting used a few times a year.

The SCG is perfectly fine. It doesn't need to go further down the track of those soulless looking stadiums that AFL wants build like "the G". There is no demand for it to be any bigger. It could actually be smaller. Apart from England and India coming out every 4 years nobody cares about it.
I also don't agree that we need more money spend on the suburban one club RL ground.
The best thing is in a few years we get Stadium Australia rebuilt to an 80k version of Parra Stadium so it is worthy of the name Stadium Australia. Have it built in a way that it will be the best rect stadium in the southern hemisphere for the foreseeable future (50 years).
