The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

^^^ Article states they currently play 9 games in sydney, I thought it was 9 at accor and 1 at allianz, plus perth and central coast. Either way souths are using the carrot of bringing 2 extra games to sydney to help them move to allianz.

I still believe at a minimum the good friday game needs to stay at homebush to tie in with the easter show crowd and they can also develop some other blockbuster game/s at the precinct.
The sceptic in me says Souths are making these noises to get more money out of Accor as they’re desperate for tenants. Personally, I hope they get out of there along with Canterbury. With one or two Origins games a year, a possibly shifting GF along with the odd soccer international would render Accor unprofitable. Only then would it get a proper refurb/rebuild. Or it makes way for housing.

Since the govt owns both other than spite what’s the deal put of letting them out of the lease so they can move to Allianz

Accor is a white elephants. South’s getting 10k there won’t change that perception

Souths knew that Accor wasn't getting any upgrades when current CEO Blake Solly signed the lease agreement for Accor. So the situation is one of its own making. Why the heck should the NSW Government give them sweet heart get out of its lease because Souths made a dumb decision? Also my club has no say on who uses Allianz, its one of the tenants, not an owner, so Webster's point about the Roosters is full of crap.

I mean the Waratahs and Sydney FC also play out of Allianz. If the Roosters had such a big say like webster carries on,m then why would they be there also? On that side of it Webster is full of manure.

A lack of stadiums isn’t the issue, utilisation is.
Suncorp Stadium has had 2 sell outs to start 2025.

Between now and the end of September, Suncorp Stadium will host:

29 Rugby League games (with further finals games possible/likely)
4 Super Rugby Games (finals TBA)
2 British & Irish Lions games
4 A-League Games

It is certain that 10 rugby league games will sell-out.
It is possible up to another 10 will sell out, with many at or near.
It is certain the 2 union tests will sell out.

This is just the next 6 months. International soccer hasn't been announced beyond that time.

Games like Brisbane v Wests Tigers are at or near sell out. Inconceivable even 5 years ago.

Capacity and constraint are the issue, not utilisation.

i assume this means the waterfront stadium idea is essentially dead? Or is there still a chance it could happen?

That doesn’t actually look too bad as far as “multi-purpose” goes. The retractable lower tier to fit an oval in means it should be decent for rectangular sports, the upper tiers of that stand maybe not so much.
Without the council supporting the idea, the waterfront proposal has a damn-near impossible route to getting built.

The meeting saw many concerns raised about construction - everything from the business case (commercial precinct profits paying towards the build) to the immense disruption to railway lines, not long after the City Rail Link opens.... without the council advocating for it, they're stranded.

On the other side, with this vote council are saying to Eden Park "Hey, we don't have any money for you BUT we can be your biggest cheerleaders and help things like getting through planning/consenting & lobbying Central Government for funding, because we know that technically your plan is MUCH more do-able than the other one" - which is a boost for that side.

Looks pretty good. Better for both rectangle sports and cricket - big enough for cricket tests now?
Yes. Stage 1 (the retractable seating stage) is intended to bring the oval configuration up to full ICC test standard.

Stage 2 is making the upper stands on both sides "alligned" to allow for the retractable roof

Stage 3 is installing the roof itself.

Sydney FC play during the summer don't they?

Souths must play out of Allianz. See ya Accor. No rectangular reno's then no regular rugby league.

I read an article where it said Allianz Stadium was a gift to RL. Bullshit. It's a gift to the Roosters and some clubs from others sports.

If it's a gift to RL then at least another club needs to call it home and the Bunnies fit the bill perfectly.

Doesn't look cheap! Will we finally get to see a stadium with reconfiguration ability that works? Is it too late to build it into the Brisbane Olympic stadium lol.

Bunnies and St's (5 games) should also be calling it home. All that money for a new stadium and only one NRL club using it? Insane.

Cheers, it’s a shame but not a surprise. Hopefully Mt Smart can get some money spent on it assuming All Blacks & Blues will also be playing there during those redevelopments.

Eden Park should be used by the Warriors at least once a year, Anzac Day obviously choice.

My ideal scenario would have been.

* New rectangular stadium with a roof at Bledisloe Wharf (60k give or take) - crucially not in that awkward bit of land by the rail lines that the recent bid was eyeing up.

* Mt Smart upgraded to a 25 to 30k 2nd stadium (when footy games clash with concerts, or main stadium is having maintenance or lower pulling games)

* Dedicated cricket oval at Western Springs (stock cars were moving out anyway)

* North Harbour demolished or downgraded. 15-20k stadium at the North Harbour site or a redeveloped Onewa Domain for North Harbour rugby union.

* Eden Park demolished. Replaced by infill housing (medium density) and a community park.
