Gallop's negatives...

- Sold the last TV rights deal at way unders.
- Refuses to enforce agreement in TV deal to ensure that the games are shown at a reasonable time in Southern states
- News Ltd lackey and ex employee
- Very slow to agree to expansion - had to be dragged kicking and screaming to allow the Gold Coast into the comp in 2007.
- Talks down the game at evey opportunity.... concedes that the AFL deserves more TV money than the NRL...

Positives ( to some)

Farked over the Storm

Yes.. lets keep him on board for another 10 years....

Must say all of that is true but again a lot of it is also caused by the relationship with News he has. To some extent, beyond his control.

Proactive he certainly isn't though.

Still better than John O'Neill who pulls a massive wage and has sent his sport broke. The banker who can't balance the books. lol

Gallop has never talked down our game and has done some brilliant work at the broadcast negotiating table for rugby league. Always puts the game first and we have secured maximum dollars as a result. He has also established a great relationship with media organisations and rugby league is now reported on fairly in all mediums.

We are forever in his debt.

Hilarious a Manly fan places more faith in a "Bec and Buzz" report than Gallop himself

Really don't understand the over-the-top criticism of Gallop. Should we neck Gillard and Obama for not achieving world peace?

Our sport is in a very strong position, thanks in part, to Gallop. He hasn't made the 100% correct decision at every turn but he hasn't driven our game into the ground - and we're certainly in a better position than we were this time ten years ago.

I agree with Timmah. I have a gripe with him over how he treated Stewart but if I take that out of the equation he probably has not been that bad. His role isn't exactly a simple one considering the ownership structure.

I have a gripe with how Manly fans think "he" treated Stewart.

Gallop has worn the brunt from you lot about the way Stewart was/wasn't treated by "him" - when there's a board of directors that should all be fired a broadside if you think about it. He wouldn't have made such a decision on his own.

In business the CEO is the face of a organisation and cops the criticism that is generated by its decisions. Thats how it is. But don't hijack the thread Timmah, back on topic.

Poor media deal
Poor corporate sponsorship of the code
Giving away the new media rights

These all led to a significant income difference between us and our main rival and for this reason (presuming he had some control over them) he should be shown the door before we sign any new agreements.

On the plus I like what he did with the Titans and I thought his handling of the Melbourne fiasco was very good given the magnitude of it.

Gallop has done a good job at the day to day running of the game - not surprising, he is a lawyer after all. Managing player incidents, a hollow and conflicted ARL/QRL/NSWRL against News Ltd's ownership and interests... he has done ok being between a rock and a hard place, with mediocure resources.

The big enduring failure of Gallop's CEO-ship has been the last media deal, and at times talking down Rugby League. He has not managed the best interests of the game against the conflict of interest and wicked web of relationships the NRL has with News / Telstra / PBL / Consolidated Media.

The other big failing is setting any long-term direction for the game. Sure, they have aimed at incrimental improvement in different areas, such as memberships, advertising and juniors, but there is no "big picture" direction. This is hardly Gallops fault though, and it lies squarely with the ARL/News Ltd.

For mine, he can redeem the 2006 TV rights failure in his position as CEO on the new IC. So far, he has done the right thing this time around, contracting an independent organisation to assess the games value, and refusing to lock the game into any agreements, be it expansion or media rights, until the IC is up and running.

We had great TV ratings and the general feel of the game was positive (coming off a year of record crowds) heading into the last TV rights.

We ended up getting shafted at the broadcast negotiating table...again.

The CEO should cop the blame for that. This is vital money for the future prosperity of the code.

We should have received way more from the last TV deal, yet when it came to the minor media player that is radio, we scrapped for every last dollar, resulting in restricted coverage for listeners.

I never understand these sort of comments.
Gallop is a News Limited lackey appointed by News Limited to look after one of its assets.
he had no background in rugby league. he had no management experience.

He just sits there and comes out occasionally with mealy mouthed bullsh*t about our game or looking serious when one of the players stuffs up. What is so hard about this? he's not accountable - he doesn't have his balls on the line. It's the easiest job in the world.

Rugby league has always had core support and popularity from a big number of NSW and QLDer's. Its growth is quite natural. This has nothing to do with Gallop or News Limited. Junior footy and country footy are in a massive hole however - and he has done sweet FA there.

We need to drop the crap and recognise that Gallop represents News Liited - not rugby league.

Ronny, don't you think the meek QRL / NSWRL / ARL have to shoulder some blame here?

Don't all 3 have multi-million dollar piggy banks? Don't they have a 50% say on all matters administrative?

It is easy for ranting and raving fans (especially those without a club) to attack the current admin, but Gallop is just a part of the structure not its whole, and definately not its weakest link.

Hence the urgent need for the IC.

It isn't easy to manage the big player and club issues. There are often complex legal issues involved. He has done well guiding the game, but has been a poor figure-head and failed in the TV deal negotiations.
