Galvin v the Tigers

Instead of getting the shits and acting like a child, they had an opportunity to try and resolve it or work out an exit plan that gets the Tigers something of benefit. Now they have an angry playing group, a coach that isn't in control of selection decisions and a 29 man squad.

I agree with this. The club has been petrified of the media perception around Galvin for a long time now. To me the smart play would have been to release a statement saying

'Today the club met with Lachlan Galvin and his manager, we have mutually agreed to put contract extensions on hold until the end of the year so we can focus on what has been an incredibly encouraging start the year. The club will notify fans when negotiations commence post season.'

However I also believe that Issac Moses was after this reaction and wants Galvins position at the club to be untenable. I have no doubts he would have leaked to one of his media lackys that this wasnt the case and he had told the club lachlan had no intention of staying at the club.

As punishment for this flagrant and despicable act of treason, I summon the spirit of Shaun Kenny-Dowall into his hands and fingers.

The Eels (if it's them) are going to value Galvin at $1m plus, so if they want him early, do the Tigers say sweet, we want a near-on $1m guy back our way. Trouble is, Eels don't have many, if any.

Sounds a bit Pascoe like …. Except for the “incredibly encouraging start to the year “ part

In relation to straight employment matters, what employer would hold a meeting with a prospective employee and accept "I'll stay but there are a number of issue regarding Manager/Supervisor X I want resolved" type demands? Unless they were in the nature of illegality, the employer would just more or less say "you don't like person X? Tough, cya later".

I've worked in my current work place for 30+ years. I've had some great managers, and come who I hope I never meet again in my life. I don;'t get to choose who is my manager, nor supervisor. I either like it or lump it.

That said, if I have an issue with them, I speak to them directly or, if I feel the need, go to the rung above them to try air the problems and see what can be done. I don't do it at a meeting where my contract is being renewed as it wouldn't be really germane at that point. I mean, if things were that bad, why wait until that point to bring it up? Why wasn't it brought up sooner? That's where this part of it smells to me, and makes me think its Moses driving this to get Galvin an early release before the end of the 2026 season.

It’s not quite a like for like though …the employee doesn’t want to be there … his agent doesn’t even want to even consider staying there and has presented a list of reasons why about the deficiencies with his “Manager” in an attempt to justify this

By the same token, that is what goes hand in hand with fixed contract employment, generally speaking. You have to put up with the "undesirable" stuff (e.g. not liking your supervisor/manager) that comes in any workplace situation whilst you are under a fixed term contract.

Man I was 100% pro tigers on this and fully against Galvin.

I get Jaromes post, I think that is fine.

But Turuva's one is pretty poor taste, and just doesnt sit well with me for some reason.

It feels like the general sentiment has been pro tigers until Turuva's post, now im starting to feel sorry for Galvin when I really shouldnt be. Good work Turuva

Is anyone surprised about Turuva? Even in that Panthers team he managed to be the grubbiest merkin.

Man, in the nfl teammates don't say anything at all about another player going through a contract dispute, no matter what is reported by the media. They know it's a business and as long as that player does his best for the team, that's all they're worried about.

Also, a team can't sign a player until he is on the market. None of this one year in advance crap that the nrl somehow does.

But that doesn't preclude you asking to get out. It's also goes hand in hand that you can't guarantee the motivation levels required to perform.
