TBF there is nothing to stop a player 3 years out from his contract ending telling the club he doesnt intend to extend it. All a trade window does is determine when signing for another club is allowed to be made public.

Its a calculated gamble. If he turns out to be the next Andrew Johns and the cap goes up significantly in 2028 $1.2mill until end of 2031 would be a steal. If he doesn't then its craps. Roll of the dice by the Tigers or whoever else is going to throw big money at him.

Agree, especially if (and I hope he doesn't) gets a career ending injury before his next contract is signed, he will end up with nothing and very little support I would imagine.
