Game 37: Sri Lanka vs New Zealand

266 for New Zealand to chase here, looks a bit out of reach based on the pitch but stranger things have happened.

Nathan McCullum took an absolutely brilliant catch that was referred to the third ump and given not out. Clearly taken on the side on view, expect another umpiring official to be assigned to games that don't matter.

It may not have changed the result, but that decision by the 3rd umpire was disgusting. Jayawardena knew it was out too. Corrupt subbies if you ask me!

not to mention the fact that Murali got that stumping bowling his doozra, the ball that he was told not to bowl because of the deflection in his elbow when he bowled it

some things never change

Good win Lanka....Experienced players Sanga, Mahela and Murali stood up and performed. Good to see Mathews getting a decent dig before the finals too.

Sanga having a great tournament. Now the leading run scorer with 363 @ and ave of 121.

Again our batting let us down. Same sh*t, different match. When we needed it, no-one could grind out a 100 like Sanga.

That is world cup pretty much over for us. We will play SA or India in the quarters.

Piss poor decision on the catch

You do know that he was allowed to have a second innings by another subbie third umpire, right? He was culpably out on 26. No ifs, no buts. He knew it as well, but chose to test the umpire, a subbie mate, who was the only bloke in the ground who thought it was not out. That said Saheba is a blind fool who has made a career out of being completely and utterly incompetent.

When it comes down to it you'd have be one dumb subbie to walk when you're out, can't blame Jayawardene for standing his ground when the cards are stacked in his favour.

Just annoying cos that was such an awesome catch. Never seen a caught and bowled taken that far from the pitch when it wasn't top edged.

This is the problem I have with players like Macheata Jayawardena, these guys who have these supposed cleanskin reputations... supposed walkers. When there's a critical moment in a big match it's rare they have the nuts to act morally. Gilchrist for most part IMO did. He's the exception. I'm more from the Tony Grieg school of thought, if some bloke says he's caught the ball, on your bike away you go. If he's found out, karma comes around - ask Greg Dyer. Macheata knew what was going on, this was in front of the wicket, he wasn't obscured by the bowler rolling as he took the catch, it was all in front of his eyes.

Why would anyone walk against Sri Lanka in that game? All sportsmanship in that game stopped when Macheata stood his ground, and, all batsmen were hoping if they gave any half chances it'd be referred to the blind third umpire and you'd have half a chance of surviving.
