Surely until this week I thought the flu was a myth too and would hassle mates all the time who cancelled stuff because, as I would say "had a sniffle". Put it this was in my whole life a 'flu' would never stop me going out and having 10 beers if I wanted to.
What I have had this week is from another planet, another universe altogether I never knew existed. Started with a basic sore throat when I woke up. By 5pm I could hardly breathe my throat was that swollen and insanely sore. Add to that the 'ice pick' stabbing headache that just would not back off regardless of what pain killers I threw at it and would wake me up or just buckle me if I was awake. Temp hovering between 38.5 and 39.5 and nothing would drop it. I seriously thought this is not a flu I have something that could kill me here.
I'm a pretty young 50 year old, LOVE to party, no gym or runs for me but surf 3-4 times a week waves permitting and consider myself pretty fit but this thing has put me on my ass like this is can't be happening, this is not real. I almost never ever get sick. Wife said to me last time she remembers me even complaining was about 3 years when I had (what I thought) was a winter flu.
So yeah JC maybe this is the first real 'flu' I've ever had too, maybe I've only ever had colds before but man I am now converted to flu shots bring them on where do I start I'm in. Never had one before but totally converted now.
Had an argument with my wife last night when I told her no way in hell I was selling my ticket I would give it to the last minute to be fit. Didn't give a flying F about losing the money. Glad she put some sense into me putting into perspective the importance of my health to her (11 years younger than me) and my 6 y.o daughter because I woke up today still only running on 2 cylinders 4 days into it. If I went tonight I would be on a death wish. Yeah sure I won't drink, yeah sure I'll come right home after the game. Yeah right if we put them away tonight I would be dreaming thinking that would happen.
Hope the lucky bloke who bought my ticket has the time of his life tonight and savours one of the sweetest Sharks victories ever. More than happy to sacrifice my attendance if that is the result.
Now back to bed.
