Bargain basement Brennan the man to save Saints
By The Mole
August 27
THE Dragons have ruled out signing a big-name coach to replace the besieged Paul McGregor next season – but they’re considering a cut-price alternative.
The club can’t afford to pay out McGregor and sign a high-profile replacement but I’m told they’re looking at highly rated Panthers assistant coach Garth Brennan to take over the reins.
Panthers coach Anthony Griffin recently told Brennan he wouldn’t be required for 2017 and he’s been sounded out by several clubs.
Brennan narrowly missed out to Nathan Brown for the main job at Newcastle last year and has been described by Panthers supremo Phil Gould as a first-grade coach in-waiting.
The Dragons haven’t had the best run with rookie coaches of late but Brennan has certainly earned his stripes as an assistant.
