Gasnier admits sex call
May 20, 2004
MARK Gasnier has been expelled from the NSW State of Origin rugby league team after it was found he'd made an obscene phone call.
Centre Gasnier, the nephew of league legend Reg Gasnier, made the early morning call yesterday to a 27-year-old Sydney woman.
NSW Rugby league chairman Geoff Carr said Gasnier had been dismissed from the team for the opening match of the series against Queensland in Sydney next Wednesday.
Carr said Gasnier had been identified as the caller after the team management received a recording of the call from the woman. He had then admitted making the call.
The woman had complained to the Sydney Roosters of receiving a message from a player's phone at 3.41am yesterday saying, in part, "(Woman's name), where the f... are you? There's four toey humans in the cab...and you're in bed. F... me fire up".
It was reported today the 3.41am call had come from NSW winger Anthony Minichiello's mobile phone.
He told team management the phone had been lost or stolen that night and he had not realised it was missing until later that day.
Carr said Gasnier had been told to return to the Dragons for club duties and doubted he would be selected later in the Origin series.
"It is going to be difficult for him to get back," Carr said.peCarr said the latest incident left NSW officials worried about letting players out of their sight.
"I don't know whether we can let them out of their rooms," Carr said.
