Gaz left us for money..then he came back because he saw a premiership for the taking..we where red hot in 2010and where going to win with or without him...this caused us to lose players...after that he walked away for an cushy job on fox...I loved him as a player but he left a sour taste in my mouth ..

Gasnier left because 3rd party payment agreements were reneged on. Leaving was a last resort.

My take on recruitment:

Extend - Euan Aitken, Jack de Belin, Taane Milne

Undecided - Levi Dodd, Josh Dugan, Jacob Hind, Mose Masoe, Will Matthews, Tyrone McCarthy, Kurt Mann, Shaun Nona, Russell Packer, Gareth Widdop.

Let go - Kalifa Faifai Loa, Yaw Kiti Glymin, Siliva Havili, Drew Hutchison, Tim Lafai, Chris Lewis, Jake Marketo, , Josh McCrone, Jason Nightingale.
Chris waller and gai waterhouse don't get rid of group one horses if a young one wins a midweek at Canterbury

True 1st time round only
2nd time he just quit 3 years short of the contract he signed.
Don't remember injuries being an issue?

True Old Timer, I was thinking of the France thing. I do think though that his early retirement was handled with as much integrity as possible in the circumstances. Its not like he signed a contract knowing he was going retire early. Granted it was messy and might have cost us re-signing the likes of Smith and Scott. I don't think we should complain about Costigan - we got the best of him and Newcastle got the dregs.
Someone earlier though insinuated Gasnier left for money - simply not true.

Yep agree with your assessment.
We certainly haven't progressed re TPA's surely we should have learnt something from that fiasco.
If my memory serves me correct the NRL themselves and some involvement in the failed TPA's as they didn't want another marquis player going to RU.
Perhaps Benny V or someone might remember how that went down?

Let's hope that whatever TPA's have been arranged with our 2018 halfback are all solid!

As for learning, they've shown no signs of learning from anything since 2011.

I dont know all the circumstances but I do know that Gaz stuffed up our potential to retain a lot of players I loved the guy but he needs to go and have dinner at nightys house and be taught a thing or to about old fashioned values duges a few years ago was a few roos short in the top paddock but has grown into an international that us dragon supports can be proud of

Dredge up Gaz in 2010/11 but we are now in 2017.

Gaz makes a good point. I believe too many have the rose coloured glasses with Josh Dugan.

Good 1st grade players get $450 a season. Duges is a good player. Happy to keep him as a centre around $450k mark.

Do people really believe the Broncos will shell out $750k for Duges or anyone else for that matter. He got a long term huge $ contract back 3 years ago on the prodigious form of his youngster years with Raiders. I never saw that capacity at the Dragons except for his 1st game against a struggling Parramatta at the gong.

For the record I like him as a good player with a bit of charisma. Yet if the request for another ' up there big dollar contract' is true I can see happening to him what happened to Benji. I reckon Benji is running around this year at the Broncos for pride and under $200k. He could have had a solid honestly priced contract for much more at the Dragons and expected other clubs would come up with double the tosh.

When Duges was reported as bagging the club over Benji a few weeks ago I thought ' something has soured and this is Duges last season in the red v.

Dugan and Widdop would have to have a big 2017 to be extended. I'd rather the Club let both of them go and sign Bird.

Jack Bird over Dugan would suit our attacking options better. Yes bird can defend as well. Dugan should be happy with 500 to 600k tops as center. I can't see other clubs out there paying more. Our future lays with Field and Dufty. Throw in Hunt, Leilua and Bird and we are looking formidable. We have so many talented juniors coming through it would also suit a coach like cleary who has a proven record with developing juniors.

During the Fox games where Gaz commentated the Dragons, I always enjoyed his insights into our attack. He more than anyone would know the best way forward. I always laughed how he lambasted our halves and our crap attack. He's a fan like the rest of us so he was a lot more passionate about how crap we were during his commentary.

We have been so crap for so long that all options should be on the table. And that includes letting Duges walk if his price tag is too high.

A complete reset maybe required and with guys like Field, Dufty and Mann, with Hunt coming next year, we have an opportunity to do so.

Hit me up round 4 when Lafai is still in the starting line up !!
Not sure how to interpret your post

a) You think Mary will pick him and keep picking him just like last year
or
b) You really think he deserves tho be there and will maintain his spot

if it is (b) maybe you can help me out here
What exactly what did Lafai do to get into the starting side?

Don't tell me its because he had a good boot camp.

He came through the 9s with zero missed tackles or dropped balls...
