Genuine questions RE Souths memberships

I'm seriously not wanting to start a lol@souffs shit fight. I've wondered about this a few times and tonight it was very evident. Souths tell us they have 30,000 ticketed members. Tonight in a home game against another extremely well supported sydney team (who's members were allowed in for free) they were watched by 11,000 fans. From these 11,000 I'm guessing at absolute worst 3,000 were dragons fans.

To me souths do the membership drive better then any other club and undoubtedly have done a magnificent job attracting so many. However where were all these members that souths have? How do they actually count their memberships? I find it hard believe that less then 1 in 3 turned up to a home game against a traditional rival tonight.

1) you are confusing "TICKETED" membership and Membership. Souths membership can be NON ticketed membership , partial and full ticketed membership. There are 30000+ members .They live all round Australia and some overseas . I was a member when i was posted overseas for 4 years.

i am now a NON ticketed member and i do this to financially support the club , along with membership for my family. I do not need to be a ticketed member , as i hold ANZ stadium gold membership for all my family as well as full season parking at ANZ stadium.

3) ANZ stadium on a monday night is likely to be a poor crowd , especially for families.I never attend monday night games , as my youngest has school next day.

I know plenty of non ticketed Souths fans. It's extremely cheap to get behind them membership wise even when you're unable to get to games. But the pet membership is a bit of a joke. Quoting the initial part, It shouldn't make up the numbers. It probably doesn't, but I haven't seen anything that says otherwise.

Monday nights generally suck with the exception of a few clubs being able to pull over 15k to a game and it doesn't help that Souths play out of ANZ stadium making it feel empty unless there's 30k+ crowd.

That's 30,000 members since 1908.

It's a well known fact that a LolSouffs membership is for eternity.

Me and my better half are members and we havn't gone to a game in 5 years not counting the Semi last year we flew back to. We have a heap of non ticketed members, I know we have the highest number of international members too.

Well that's a lie. And that's a problem seeing as the rest of your post is based on it.

I can tell you for a fact that Pet Memberships aren't counted in the figure. It is just a way of bringing in extra income. Souths aren't the only club who do it.

Tonight's crowd was terrible but I think it more highlights the problem with Monday night football than the teams. Unfortunately with great tv ratings Fox won't be getting rid of it.

30,000 members =/= 30,000 season ticket holders. Some members get tickets for certain games and that's it, 5 game memberships I believe they are called. Then there are interstate memberships where you can attend all the QLD games or the Perth game etc

When we had this fuss last year I suggested the NRL enforce separate tallies for season ticket holders and members to avoid the confusion.

We do not have 30k ANZ Season ticket holders. It's closer to 17-18k from what I've heard.

The game should of been played on Sunday afternoon. Do any other major sporting competitions around the world bow down to tv networks as much as we do?

Pretty much every club has a pet membership option. And those that don't are completely idiotic. It's another source of revenue for the clubs, why wouldn't you take advantage of it?

The game should have been played on Sunday, they would have got eleventy million then. It was purely because of it being a Monday night and the fact the dragons are crap.

No other team is allowed that excuse though.
