Everyone I know has done stupid things at that age, including myself.

He has now been punished, and he has to think about what he has done.

Head down bum up from now on, come back bigger and better George.

Ban, fine for George Burgess car attack
BY:pETER KOGOY From: The Australian June 19, 2013 12:00AM

GEORGE Burgess has been fined $10,000 and suspended for two matches as the NRL continues to come down hard on players misbehaving in public.

The punishment, which The Australian understands equates to a tenth of his annual contract, was imposed by the NRL's integrity unit following a lengthy meeting with senior club officials.

It comes during a disastrous period for the NRL, which has also had to deal Blake Ferguson's indecent assault charge and James Tamou's drink-driving charge. Tamou and Ferguson were both dumped from the NSW side.

The NRL also suspended Ferguson's registration for repeated behavioural issues involving the abuse of alcohol.

The 21-year-old Burgess, from Yorkshire and one of four brothers at the Redfern club, allegedly smashed a car windscreen with a street sign after attending a Cairns night spot and was later charged by Queensland police on two counts of wilful damage to property. Burgess had been out celebrating after his team's win against Gold Coast hours before the alleged offence took place. He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 10.

Burgess has also undertaken to pay the cost of the damage to the car and agreed to undergo an anger management program and to do a further 50 hours of community support work through one of the football club's charities, Souths Cares.

His place in the Rabbitohs' side to play Parramatta at ANZ Stadium on Saturday has been taken by identical twin brother Tom, who will make his senior debut off the interchange bench.

Tom will play alongside older brother Sam. Luke Burgess remains injured.

"George accepts he's done the wrong thing and there has to be a price," South Sydney chief executive, Shane Richardson said.

"For someone on his contract level it is a big price to pay and he still has to deal with the issue in court.

"We will continue to support him because he has faced up to what he has done and because this isn't reflective of his general behaviour at the club.

"Everyone is going to have to get the message though that the NRL is going to stay strong on these issues and that the clubs will support that without exception."

NRL chief executive David Smith called for an end to a recent spate of ugly incidents involving players in public.

"The fans and the players want to see an end to it," Smith said.

"This is not about issuing warnings, it is taking the appropriate action."

A Department of Immigration spokesman in Canberra yesterday said Burgess's working visa would be affected only if he was sentenced to 12 months or more in jail.

"I have let my team and my family down," Burgess said in a statement released by the South Sydney club. "I acknowledge that I am a role model for kids and I will do everything I can to restore my reputation through working harder in the community.

"It is my responsibility to ensure that this type of behaviour doesn't happen again."

George Burgess contrite after trashing car and security door in Cairns
JOSH MASSOUD AND GRACE UHR THE DAILY TELEGRAPH JUNE 19, 2013 12:00AM

FRUSTRATION over being stranded outside a woman's apartment on the outskirts of Cairns is believed to have incited South Sydney enforcer George Burgess to trash a car and security door.

The Rabbitohs hardman has been fined $10,000, outed for two matches and ordered to undergo anger management counselling after Queensland police charged him with two counts of wilful damage.

Burgess yesterday issued an unreserved apology and admitted guilt over the incident, which occurred around 2.45am Monday following a night out with teammates in Cairns.

Souths players celebrated their 30-24 victory over Gold Coast at popular backpacker nightspot Gilligans, where it's believed Burgess became friendly with a woman.

The party was captured on social media by fellow Englishman and North Queensland Cowboys player Scott Moore, who posted a photo of himself and brothers George and Sam Burgess on Instagram and Twitter with the captions "3 English bonk dogs" #reunited and "Sh*t gets messy when the Brits get together" #getloose.

The Daily Telegraph understands George Burgess was driven to the woman's home in Redlynch, about 20km west of the city, and was the only player to leave the group.

A short time later Burgess became agitated and sources close to the NRL's investigation have claimed his frustration was not related to the woman's conduct.

It's believed Burgess was keen to get back to the team hotel in central Cairns, with South Sydney coach Michael Maguire notorious for enforcing strict curfews on away trips.

But he was unable to contact a taxi or arrange a ride back into town, triggering a violent outburst.

A Queensland police statement has confirmed there was a "disagreement" between the 21-year-old and a resident of the apartment complex.

Burgess responded by damaging the handle of a security door and smashing the rear windscreen of a parked car, which did not belong to the woman he'd met earlier that night.

It's understood he used a nearby real estate sign to smash the car window.

"I would like to apologise unreservedly to the Rabbitohs members, sponsors and everyone in the community," Burgess said. "I have let my team and my family down.

"I acknowledge that I am a role model for kids and I will do everything I can to restore my reputation through working harder in the community.

"It is my responsibility to ensure that this type of behaviour does not happen again."

Burgess eventually made his way back to the team hotel, before informing Rabbitohs officials of the incident. He was presented to Cairns police and released in time to travel back to Sydney with the team on Monday afternoon.

Souths CEO Shane Richardson informed the NRL on Monday - far quicker than the five weeks it took to come clean about the Ben Te'o incident - and the Integrity Unit wasted no time imposing a hefty penalty ahead of Burgess' scheduled appearance before a Cairns magistrate on July 10.

Burgess' axing means his twin brother Tom will debut off the bench against Parramatta on Sunday.

Of course we let the NRL know straightaway you f**khead Massoud. One was charged and admitted culpability, the other (still) hasn't been and maintains his innocence.

GEORGE BURGESS IN MORE TROUBLE

ZERO TACKLE – JULY 7, 2013
POSTED IN: GEORGE BURGESS, NEWS, SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

Just three weeks after being stood down for smashing a car window with a street sign, George Burgess has found himself in more trouble. This time over nude photos posted on social media.

South Sydney Rabbitohs boss Shane Richardson has been made aware of the drama and apparently the club will take no action. Although it’s surely not a good look for either player or club to be dragged back into the media spotlight.

It’s understood that Burgess didn’t post the photos himself.

WILFUL damage charges against South Sydney NRL player George Burgess have been dropped.

The 21-year-old Rabbitoh's case was briefly mentioned in Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Burgess was charged with two counts of wilful damage after he allegedly threw a street sign through the back window of a vehicle following Souths' post-match celebrations in the Cairns suburb of Redlynch last month.

His lawyer told the court that mediation between Burgess and the car owner had been successful.

A police prosecutor agreed, adding police would not be offering any evidence in relation to the charges.

Cairns Magistrate Anthony Getts discharged the case.
