Wakefields Academy wiped the floor with the rest of the league a year ago, they tore Wigan, Leeds, Sts and Cas to shreds but not one single Trinity player made the rep squads!

Yes but Cain Southernwood was captain of that Wakefield Academy team in 2009 before moving to Bradford, plus Danny Cowling was in the original England train on squad but missed most of last season with injury, he is a superb player of the future imo.

Just wondering if any of you blokes would be going to watch any of the Schoolboys matches and would be prepared to throw in a bit of a match report for those of us interested but far away?

im goin to one of them on monday 29th Nov, they play the best team in the land Widnes Vikings Academy at the Stobart. So ill try get a team sheet with scorers and info e.t.c.

What age group is this touring team? as Widnes are throwing a few under 21's in aswell.
Also just heard the ozzies got beat by France 23-16 at Villefranche.

That would be the AIS touring team you are talking about.
The Australian Schoolboys team will arrive in the UK on the weekend.
Interesting to hear your team will play U21s:shock:
A lot of the boys in both Aussie teams are 17.
The Test match against English Academy would be one of the main games I would like to get some type of match report/live report if anyone would find it within their capabilities.

i find it very surprising that widnes has the best under 20's team when they arent even in super league! how is this possible? surely all of the best juniors are signed up to super league teams?

Widnes don't have an Under 20s team?

not sure who selects this team as there are no props and not one player from the best academy team this yr widnes, probably a wigan coach with a wire assistant.also theres no need to pick two welsh lads really

It's quite simple. Widnes don't play in an Super League Under 20s league so leave all their top Under 18s in the Under 18s academy team because its a better standard that the Championship Reserve League. This helps them look better than they actually are.

The top Under 18s from Super League clubs are playing in the Super League Under 20s competition by now, they've moved on from the Under 18s.

The vast majority of that squad are already beyond Under 18s level, some have even made first team level!

I'd also say that Widnes went full pelt at the Under 18s this year to make themselves look good for licence applicaitons. It wasn't really as important for Super League sides.

Don't get me wrong, Widnes did superb at Under 18s level but if they were doing well in the Super League Under 20s and Academy Under 18s then it would give a truer reflection.

I find it amazing that the English have no warm up game to blow away the cobwebs whilst the Australians were apparently very good against Wales and have two more lead in games to come.

Our blokes should be well wound up by then, they will improve with each run I should imagine.

a quick look at the team sheets would suggest otherwise, or a quick look at the scorers on the rfl website and u will see the wigan players who made the national team played in the under 18's.
you say some are near 1st team level and most are in the under 20's, Alex Gerrard played 1st team Alex Brown did Tom Kelly was 1st team nearly all year and Danny Craven scored a hatrick for the 1st team and also got named mom live on sky v Barrow, i know this aint superleague standard but its a higher standard than under 20's and its a higher standard than most of the picked players played at.

ps. AIS hammered Wire 44-6, next up Widnes on monday

meh, our kids teams first game in ages against a very good team that has been playing together for a while. Plus it was closer than the score suggested.

Your players made the first team in a lower league in a team that ain't that good.

Face it, Widnes as a town and team is rubbish. ;-)

We'll show you on Boxing day!!

George is pretty much confirmed to play 20s with Souths. Anyone got any reports on him and how he plays etc..

Not sure about that mate, George has been offered a two year contract with Souths but he recently said he is honouring his contract at Bradford.
He is training with the Bulls every day, i hope you are right though because i hope he comes to play out here.

He goes good, he has pretty good footwork and go-forward. Probably not as mobile as Sam.

He's massive. Yet to make his ESL debut so it's hard to say how he would go really because he's bigger than most of the kids in the reserves. From reports he's more of a natural front-rower than his brother though.

The idea of picking a smaller more mobile team may have worked in the summer months but can anyone see it working now that the test matches will be played in arctic conditions ?
