We constantly over rate our playing strength especially our forwards who are more often than not dominated due to lack of size and constantly giving away free kicks and 6 agains.
So with a smallish, ageing side and a distinct lack of depth of course our players are going to run out of puff especially against sides that remind me of the Roman Legions at the height of their empire.
In fact that is exactly how it was when we had the great run as we ran rough shod over every other team and bashed them into submission.
So blame the fitness guys all you want but the sad reality is we just don't have the cattle or the depth to compete for an entire season and it isn't a lack of fitness causing the issue it is body fatigue coupled with a lack of basic ability.
It is obvious from where I am sitting and I have sat here for a long time (hahahah !), that the people running our once great, strong, never say die club, are not realising what we can obviously see. Forward domination has been the key to our and other clubs success in general. A great forward pack that can attack and defend hard as teak would allow the backs to do their thing if of course they too are fast and strong.Yep. Every time we have won the grand final it's been on the back of a ruthless pack of forwards. Only know the 60's players by reputation, but in 1977 & 79 we had Reddy, Young, Stone, Starkey. In 2010 we had Costigan, Smith, Weyman, Scott. Forwards who wouldn't take a backward step. Not the same quality these days.
Also great football minds and not dumb clucks running around the field will help.
All of the above seems to not be the case for us and hasn't been for a long time, but the club just doesn't appear to want to get the bigger, stronger guys at the club. Players like Nelson from the Storm and Lane from the Eels on the edge and uncompromising big islander front rowers - WHY?
