NRL on Fox just confirmed that Germ is out for two matches having been found guilty but having the charge downgraded. A bittersweet result if you ask me... [-( [-( [-( [-(

Oh well, worst case scenario, Toots skipper for round one next season.

I wonder how the team will be reshuffled? Hopefully Elliot will bring Carney in, but it wouldn't suprise me if he took Azza's approach and decided that Boogs is the answer.

Lawrence in for Germ according to Win news. Also said Graham would probably drop down to premier league(think that was in yesterdays report).

Lawrence? Wow didn't see that coming.

'Yeah, Jarred, we know you haven't played firsts for 24 odd weeks, but can you help steer the side around in a sudden death semi. versus the most powerful team in the comp?'

I disagree. I'm a big Carney supporter and I was critical that he wasn't given more game time this year, however I don't think now is the right time to use him IMO. Had he been playing first grade the last few weeks then I'd be all for it, but to come into a team out of the blue, trying to form all sorts of combinations for a finals game, I just don't see it working. The same can be said for Lawrence I guess, but all he'd have to do is pick the ball up from dummy half and throw it, and be solid in defence... it's not the same as controlling a team from halfback.

So suddenly instead of Germ and Marty/Skippy being our last play option, it's suddenly on one mans shoulders? No pressure or anything!

I see your point, but on the other hand, wouldn't it almost be a waste of a player to have Carney play like 30 minutes (which is how he'd be used) and only do a few things? I mean a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have dreamed that I'd have said this, but Drew should stay at halfback considering his last 2-3 games. You gotta ride the hand while it's hot.

No way IBG!!! Woolford is not just a catch-and-pass hooker! He sets up a lot of our line breaks with astute dummy half runs, but more importantly, he's one of our front line general play kickers. The thinking behind putting Lawrence there is obviously "it's a safe bet", but in reality it's just stupid. I can't believe Elliott's doing this.

Dead set, i feel like just scalping off my ticket, i'm that pissed off. F**k you Elliott.

arrghhh!!! how in hell are we gonna beat the Roosters with conservative strategies?!?! doesn't elliott watch Roosters games?! wake up call Matty: 60 points against the wooden-spooners means NOTHING!!! not only are they a pathetic defensive team (just look at that Chalk try from the drop-out), but they stopped trying after we got to 28-10. i'd love to believe that we can beat the roosters with Drew, Croker and Lawrence as our main men, but i just can't for the life of me see it happen.
and that's not even mentioning the omission of Phil. Last year, Evans, Mogg, Robertson and Bulgarelli were all above Phil in the queue for firsts, now somehow Nathan Smith and Chalk have overtaken him too. WTF is going on??? And what happened to Gafa? Did he have it off with Elliott's wife or something? Because I don't know how the hell else you could keep him out of firsts.
i will keep hope, for we never know who might run onto the field come game day, but at this stage i'm very VERY upset.

Don't get too upset, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Drew is moved to hooker and McLinden into the starting team just prior to the game.

I would be. I'd be surprised as hell. I'd be surprised as hell if Elliott ever takes a risk. But s**t, this isn't even a risk, its just common sense to put Drew into his preferred position in the absence of Germ. And even if by some miracle Elliott does do that, then its odds-on that Lawrence will still be in the 17. and the Phil Graham/Matt Gafa dilemma will not have gone away either. this is all just like a big f**king joke.

I agree Kris. It's like whenever it looks like Elliot has gotten some sense in to him......

I think Elliott may have got this one right. Drew is playing well at 7 - so keep him there. At least he has brought up an established #9, and Macca will have a good impact on the bench.

Picking Phil does not automatically guarantee a win. But I agree, he should be starting.

yeah you're right it doesn't matter that no.9 is drew's preferred position. what am i thinking?? and if it worked against premiership heavyweights souths, then its definitely gonna work against the roosters!
PS: can you please explain how Jarred Lawrence is an "established #9"??? #-o

Drew has had a few decent games at half now. And if it gives him more space, which is what he thrives on, then good - he will need to be creative on Sunday.

I know he likes hooker but there's no I in team.

Jarred Lawrence played first grade in 2002 and has been PL hooker for 4 yrs. I'm sure he can throw a decent dummy half pass and will provide decent service.

 I'm tired of arguing this. Look, i'm sure you can concede that we need more than just "decent service" from dummy half, especially with a lock forward playing in the no.6 jersey. and incidentally, Lawrence has played two games this year. one was against the panthers in round 2, and i cant remember the other one.

Is there any chance of McLinden going to dummy half?

He would provide many more options... Plus our halves at the moment offer absolutely nothing. Croker, Drew, Lawrence? Our defence is terrible, so we will need to score lots of points, and these are not the guys that will do it for us.

I really wish these posts were taken on board, because our ideas count for nothing, which is so disappointing.

I reckon even putting Graham on the wing, Chalk at FB, and schif in the halves would be better than what is lined up...

Thoughts?

i've pretty much made known what i think. i think your idea is pretty good raiders_boy  schif into 5/8 is extremely unlikely, although mclinden at dummy half may well happen. what i'm saying is, i agree with you that a couple of positional changes need to be made to cover for the lack of woolford.
the thing is, by putting lawrence at hooker youre resting your hopes on him being as good as woolford, which is a slim-to-none chance of happening. make a couple of minor changes though, such as drew  no.9, and you open up a range of possibilities.
