With a 9 a side comp featuring Bad Reichenhall and StuSta-München and possibly a couple of other teams from Bavaria being joined by Linz and innsbruck from Austria we will almost certainly have Germany v Austria playing against each other in Bad Reichenhall on the 17 June 2006!Things just keep getting better and there is a distinct possibility we will have even more news that will have a major effect on Rugby League being played in Heidelberg area!Heidelberg sharks will all things considering enter the middlesex 9s in London area in 2006 as well.

Germany would seem like a country rl could do well in dont they have a thriving gridiron comp? how strong is ru in germany do they get any crowds for their matches,if georgia or romania fail to make the ruwc would germany or russia take the spot, certainly would be a great place for the rlif to have a wc qualifer

RU is not even in the top 25 sports in germany and is only popular in Heidelberg and Hannover! It has 10000 members hardly great in a land of over 80 Million! Also RU is in Germany for over a 100 years. Most teams are reliant on foreigners to survive and often have one team and NO junior development.German RU is very political!the highest club games will get is 400 and thats Heidelberg clubs playing against each other. The National team may get 3 or 4000 depending.Very little development work is done in Bavaria which is the biggest state in germany by a fair way.

AF is big but no games will be shown from the NFL on Free view and maybe not on pay per view.Soccer rules here sadly and it is so pathetic.Winter Sports and Cycling have the next biggest following Soccer.

Munich is 1 hour away from Austria.Leo Berngrubers team Bad reichenhall play union in Winter with a couple of Austrian teams and so we have targetted them as well as bavarian clubs to set up a League as well as state of origin style Germany v Austria. This is not really my work but more the work of Leo.Its people like Leo, Uwe Jansen in Heidelberg that are doing much great work and i am just helping them and giving as much support as I can as well as looking to reward them in various ways by getting things in papers and Rl Media like Rugby League World etc.

Yep but it was pretty obvious that the bloke wasn't for real, unlike Der Kaiser and his development partners.

I once played RL against an Austrian RU int'l, or so he claimed (he wasn't bad, actually). I wonder how many clubs there are in Austria.

I was walking through Heidleberg the other day and as there is a Headleberg in Victoria we were trying to think of the name of a sporting club from there, i think they used to have a national soccer league team. Anyway, I've pulled out Heidelberg Sharks, as it sounded familiar. Completely forget they were a RL team. I guess union is big there as its a Uni town.

So you've got 6 teams playing Nine's (= 54 players) and a possible "international" presumably with the same 50 or so players.

And rugby union has a mere 10,000 players?

Yes, DK, the emperor's clothes are fantastic.:D :D :D

I am posting because it amuses me. Who could get pissed off by 50 people deciding to play rugby league, compared with 10,000 playing rugby?

Certainly not me.

Small things amuse extremely small minds. This is the category you are listed in.

Anyhow, 10,000 current players (if this is actually right) in one hundred years of growth for union in Germany. That's impressive, the locals must really love union. Oh no wait! it's played by mostly ex-pats. Strange that, explains the lack of growth with the natives.

I'm also sure you can list some of Germany's greatest players throughout this time, there must be some world famous names.

Do you even know anything about Germany union ? I would think not, so f**k off puntmonkey. [-X

For any sport, in any country where it's not that popular, reaching 1000 participants would be quite something, but reaching 10,000 seems pretty much cloud cuckoo land.

Does Germany really, genuinely have 10,000 rah rahs? I would be very sceptical of that figure. Well done to them if they have, of course, but it does seem a tad inflated, like the 10,000 Russian leaguies which is now viewed as a trifle over the top.
