The White Stripes new album. Whos heard it? Your thoughts?

The White Stripes are a bit of a love or hate band but I've just popped in their latest CD and I'm quite impressed. Not on the level of Elephant but how often are follow ups to successful albums?

Maybe it's the old school guitar or the striped bare and simple quality of the music but theres a few pearlers on this album.

Personal favs would be the quick opener Blue Orchid, the aptly named Instinct Blues, Take Take Take and The Denial Twist.

As I've said, it won't quite have the mainstream appeal of Elephant, I could only really see Blue Orchid making it to radio but as a whole it stands up. Skip Meg Whites droaning voice on Passive Manipulation and it's one of the top albums of the year IMO (But then again Your Honor by the Foo Fighters is out next week).

I only bought it Sunday, so I'm still absorbing it at this stage. But I'm getting a kick out of it so far - I've loved the Stripes since White Blood Cells, and my initial impressions are that the new one will not disappoint.

I got it a few weeks ago, it's slowly growing on me although I love Blue Orchid.

I really like My Doorbell, it's as swell as any track I've heard this year.
Yeah that one's pretty sweet. Take, Take, Take is my favourite atm. I also have a soft spot for I'm Lonely (But I Aint That Lonely Yet).

what type of music do they play,is it like Jet or The Casanovas as in roots Rock`n`Roll with a bluesy feel

Yeah, a bit of blues there. Jack's main influence is those Delta blues type players such as Eddie James 'Son' House.

I like it! There is a short period towards the middle-end of the album where 2 or 3 tracks get a bit bogged down, but apart from that it's as good an album as I've heard all year. Favourite is Denial Twist, though Doorbell and I'm Lonely are right up there. Little Ghost is also alot of fun. Not sure if it's my favourite Stripes album, I like em all, except maybe for their first.

Ok I've had this album for a while now and I'm unhealthily obsessed by it. It seems to get better and better with every listen, so I find myself listening to it over and over again. The neighbours are not happy, and I have the volume up a little too loud at work. The music has seeped into my subconscious - so much so that I am hearing it in my sleep. I've never slept so well in my life.
