Gillett - Kangaroos Bolter

With Scott, Shillington, Galloway, T. Williams & Parker fighting injury concerns it appears Matty Gillett is in the frame for a shock call up to the roos.

Please answer these questions three (maybe 4-5)

Do you think he's ready?

Do you think this selection will make it difficult to retain him next year? There have been rumours floating around that he could leave next season.

What other Broncos do you think will be selected?

What would your Kangaroo side look like.

If this was any other board I'd bribe you with reps so instead I'll just offer my sincerest form of gratitude. :)

1. Yes he is ready but surely Lewis, Whatmough, Gallen, etc are ahead of him as a Lock, and Australia have a zillion backrowers headed by Thaiday, etc.

2. He won't leave, piss Anderson off and give Gillett all of his money.

3. Hodges, Hoffman (Kiwis), Thaiday, Hannant (bench), Civonoceva

4.

1. Slater
2. Boyd or Hayne (pending form)
3. Inglis
4. Hodges
5. Uate
6. Thurston
7. Cronk
8. Scott (will be fit, back a week before)
9. Smith
10. Civonoceva
11. Thaiday
12. Whatmough
13. Gallen
14. Daly Cherry Evans
15. Hannant
16. Greg Bird
17. Snowden/Luke Douglas

I don't think Cherry-Evans is a bench utility. I do think Gillett would be a super option for the Kangaroos. He is the type of player that would dominate playing with all gun players IMO.

I do think he is ready, but I don't think he would get enough minutes playing for Australia to be of any value. I also don't think he will be selected anyhow.

I don't think he is the kind of person to ask for a release mid contract, so I don't think we would be losing him until whenever that expires if at all. With Petro going there should be money around to retain him anyhow. He should be the one to take over the lock spot when Parker goes, so hopefully we can keep him until then.

Other Broncos in rep sides.. Hard to say because Tim Sheens is an idiot. If fit Hodges and Thaiday are near certain.
Hannant made the ANZAC test, but not the 4N last year, and was replaced by dodgy selections. I think he will get a bench spot though. Deserves it so far.
I'm hoping Petro retires from rep footy. I simply haven't been all that impressed by his performances for us this year and he needs to get that sorted out before playing any rep.
Josh McGuire has continued his good form from last year and I think would make the step up to rep footy quite well, could be a more likely Bolter than Gillett (because there is less props ATM).
I'm not sure about the NZ team. I can't see them dropping Locke for Hoffman. I can't see Beale getting a spot unless they still have injury problems. With Adam Blair sucking so badly Glenn should be in with a good chance though.

Side that I think will be picked, assuming fitness.
1. Slater
2. Not sure..

6. Thurston
7. Cronk

14. DCE
15. Watmough
16. Hannant

No.

Like Lockyno1 said let Anderson leave and use that money to retain Gillett AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

What other Broncos do you think will be selected?

Thaiday, Hodges, Hannant, Glenn, Beale,

Has Hoffman declared for New Zealand yet, if not he'd be a chance at origin in place of Jharal surely.

What would your Kangaroo side look like.

1 Slater
2 Uate
3 Hodges
4 Inglis
5 J.Morris
6 Thurston
7 Cronk
8 Hannant
9 Smith
10 Scott
11 Lewis
12 Thaiday
13 Gallen

14 Shillington
15 Stewart
16 Watmough
17 Someone Else

I think he'd make an awesome bench utility for the rep sides. Can cover many positions and makes an impact when he comes on.

Although being selfish I'd prefer he didnt get picked and stays fresh for the Broncos.

Why not, Cronk can be the utility and Evans can play half. I see no need for Gidley, there are enough utilities (Lewis) that can cover centres if need be. In a test you are most screwed if a half goes down not when a centre goes down and the other option is Kidley LOL!

Thing is that if either Cronk or Thuston go down injured that still leaves one world class half on the field, and Gillet can play as a defensive pivot. Gillet can also cover centre, wing and backrow.

I feel that the only position DCE can cover at Origin level is half, and would not be able to cover any forward positions.

I would rather have DCE in the side than Kidley...Kidley is rubbish at a number of positions at least DCE is elite in one position! Gillett has to push Watmough, Lewis (especially) out of the side

You would need to be brain dead to carry a halfback on the bench in an international match.

If Luke Lewis or Greg Bird are in the team, there is no room for another Forward utility like Gillette, in my opinion.

Also Cronk started his career as a bench utility and is much more capable of the extra defense required to go into the backrow or hooker.

I think if they were going to use DCE off the bench, he would go into half and Cronk would move elsewhere.
Not sure if that would work though, since he would already be tired.

This is why Cronk should remain as QLD's utility and DCE should start in SOO.

ergo DCE = Australia's #7
