With Scott, Shillington, Galloway, T. Williams & Parker fighting injury concerns it appears Matty Gillett is in the frame for a shock call up to the roos.

Please answer these questions three (maybe 4-5)

Do you think he's ready?

For a bench spot.......yes.

Do you think this selection will make it difficult to retain him next year? There have been rumours floating around that he could leave next season.

I haven't heard these rumours. I liked the suggestion of pissing off Scott Anderson and giving most of his money to Gillette. His selection in either the QLD or Kangaroo team would certainly have his manager salivating

although I suspect he already is,

considering Matt's early form this year. Either way, I think Bronco's management will be doing all they can to retain him.

What other Broncos do you think will be selected?

Hodges, Thaiday, Hannant for the Kangaroos

Beale & Glenn for the Kiwis.

Reed......the Poms

What would your Kangaroo side look like.

1. B. Slater
2. J. Hayne
3. G. Inglis
4. J. Hodges
5. A. Uate
6. J. Thurston
7. D. Cherry-Evans
8. B. Hannant
9. C. Smith (C)
10. M. Scott
11. L. Lewis
12. S. Thaiday
13. P. Gallen

14. C. Cronk
15. M. Gillette
16. G. Stewart
17. >insert NSW nuff nuff prop< .....or a fit Shillington

Petro...?

If this was any other board I'd bribe you with reps so instead I'll just offer my sincerest form of gratitude. :)

I hate those other kinds of board re: "reps".

Yes, he is a very mature and level headed player and has all the talent there. A little more experience would help but Australia seems to pick a bunch of random nuffies who aren't up to rep level yet anyway every year.

He would have been difficult anyway but I can't see him going anywhere.

Hodges and Thaiday are certanties. Civo as well if he hasn't retired. Glenn is a good possibility for the Kiwis as well as Hannant for the Aussies (should be a certanty but Sheens is an idiot. Hoffman and Beale are options also but can't see them making it unless Locke is injured and a few wingers/centres are injured (like there always is). I suppose you could chuck McGuire in as an option because a lot of people would have liked to see him get picked at the end of last year and he is still in good form. Reed for the Pommies.

What would your Kangaroo side look like.
What I would like to see:
1.Slater
2.Boyd
3.Inglis
4.Hodges
5.Gordon/Hayne
6.Thurston
7.Cronk
8.Scott
9.Smith
10.Gallen
11.Lewis
12.Thaiday
13.Parker/Johnson/Harrison

14.Gillett
15.Hannant
16.Civo/Myles
17.Parker/Harrison/Watmough/Stewart/Williams/Sims/Taylor/Bird

I went with Gillett as the utility just because it's so hard trying to squeeze in all the back rowers and I really hate Gidley being an automatic selection for Australia. We have enough versatility in this team to have Gillett as the utility, plus he can be used as that 'Tony Williams impact player' that we had last year.

I would have Yow Yeh in a heartbeat on the wing if he wasn't injured. His combination with Hodges is incredible. I like Gordon as a safe yet versatile winger but Hayne and Uate are freaks so I don't care who gets this spot out of those 3.

It's bloody hard to pick the back row... I'm quite sure that Parker, Harrison and Myles will hardly be considered as always but these players have been form origin and club players for years yet every year get overlooked for a NSW player who had a good run in the finals in a grandfinalists team. Or for a Tigers player...

I have never really been a fan of Johnson playing for Australia but the competiton between Aus, NZ and the Pommies is getting far closer than it was a few years ago and the extra defense wouldnt hurt, especially when you have Thaiday, Lewis, Gillett and someone else in your back row who can run the flanks/ball play. Also Johnson has improved as a ball player and would still have that combination with the storm trio, and now JT as well.

If he comes back from injury and still plays like he did last year, I would no doubt love to blood Tariq Sims on the bench.

You would need to be brain dead to carry a halfback on the bench in an international match.

its tom shines. f**k he thinks galloway is a test prop

This is why Cronk should remain as QLD's utility and DCE should start in SOO.

ergo DCE = Australia's #7

what????? Cronk is far superior to DCE. i liek DCE but he has hell of a long way to go before he's better than cronk. just cos cronk has more of a utility value doenst mean he should eb on the bench.

Gillett is more than ready and he's shown he's got a real hunger this year. everytime he comes on he gets invovled straight away and lifts the team. a lot depends on where they play gallen. if he plays backrow i can see the backrow being thaiday, gallen and lewis with watmong off the bench. if gallen plays prop then gillet may get the bench.

Gents,

Supercoach related question if you will.

Is the Gillett's move to the starting side going to be a permanent one?

How many minutes will the big unit play?

Many thanks.

Permanent? Maybe. Wouldn't say it's a good chance because Parker returns in Round 8 but if Gillett plays well enough he might move Glenn to the bench.

Why not......?

It makes the 17 man team stronger.

Cronk is the best utility in rep OZ. Why not have him continue in this role........?

There's somethin' about DCE.......composure

maturity......flair

he's a "fuggin good un"

we're seeing just the beginning...........better players around him like he'll have in rep football (JT........Smith....Slater)

he could be the next "alfie"

JMO.....

Again......my penchant for having good players on the bench

I have no probs with Gillette starting from there. He adds so much impact

he...alone, lifted Brisbane last week when he came on against the Bunnies.

I'd rather see every week.....

8. Hannant
9. Mc
10. Petro
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Hunt
15. Gillette
16. McGuire
17. Teo

lol @ Evans.

Kid goes great but,

Cronk will be 7 for Australia, QLD and should be.

B Morris for wing too, with the spot being open.

People forget who is picking.

Utilities are overrated. Players are so skillful these days that they can cover a variety of positions.

Cronk wasn't selected for his utility value but to be groomed as Lockyer's successor.

DCE is a good un, his time will come.

That was......until DCE came along

things have changed.

You have a good point re: the modern day player's general versatility

still........the utility player/posisition in a team sport should not be under rated

so callously.

Things haven't changed at all.

Cronk is still dominating the competition and the only thing DCE has over Cronk is his age.

The only reason you'd want a utility is for impact. There's nothing Cronk or Kidley adds at utility that Smith doesn't already possess and Smith is an 80 minute player.

I don't think it's as bad an idea as others. But at this stage, no, DCE doesn't deserve to start ahead of Cronk.

Gidley is a pretty good utility especially if his major role is going to be playing out of dummy half. He is pretty good in there so I don't have a massive problem with him being selected TBH. He can play but I wouldn't pick him if it was up to me.

Back to Gillett... He's definitely putting his hand up, and even though he was riled after that Weyman moment last night for while, he came back strong and finished the game on a high.

I hope he stays at the Broncs for life!
