Give power to the fans

The last thing we want, is for "fans" to have control of decision making. That's dumb. Why, cause the fans don't have all the information, access to information or even the time to assess the information, even if for a start, they can understand the information. I'm not an accountant and I can't understand a balance sheet. Don't give me the job of making decisions that affect the bottom line!

The second last thing we want, is for the clubs to decide. The 16 NRL clubs ARE NOT RUGBY LEAGUE. There are hundreds of clubs all over the country who are RL as well as the NRL. Don't give them the power. Then the decisions are generally made on what is good for the NRL clubs, not RL.

The thirdlast thing we want is the organisations like News, ARL, QLDRL and NSWRL or the CRL to make decisions. Each makes decisions on what's generally best for it. Not the wider game. That's why for years, organisations like them ignored the international game.

The ACTUAL thing we want, quite simply is an INDEPENDENT COMMISSION that considers, fans, the NRL clubs as our flagships, stakeholders like media companies, regional bodies like ARL, NSWRL, CRL and even gives queenslanders a fair hearing.....(sorry thats getting a bit out there). Maybe even development of the Pacific. Wouldn't that be unique!

The INDEPENDENT commission should make decisions for the wider good of the game, based on the best information they can get.

I see heaps of posters here criticising the likes of Gallop and Love and so on. I don't agree with them all the time. While we are going forward you can say they are doing a good job. We are going forward, maybe we can go better.

Virtually everyone agrees we need an INDEPENDENT Commission. The only question is how that Commission is appointed and the effects of that appointment process on its independence. No one is suggesting giving fans or anyone else without the information, the power to affect the bottom line on a decision by decision basis. Nor is anyone suggesting we give the clubs that same power on a decision by decision basis. Inferences to that effect in any discussion are just scaremongering. Once a Commissioner is in place, they're there for four years with the freedom to take any decision they see fit without recourse back to those who elected them. This is all a debate about how the Commissioners get elected, not who has the power and the information to wield it on a decision to decision basis. That's already agreed - the Commission how the power and information. Now, how do we get the Commissioners in place?

Fair enough but they can only vote for the candidates they're presented with in the end. Share holders have a say on any corporation's board and to me, the fans are share holders of RL. We invest enough money in it after all.
The average Joe Blow shareholder doesn't get their say at AGM's, Proxy votes - decided by the board - always carry the day.

I'm just imagining what would happen if the NRL was run by this forum.

Jeez.....You would never hear of RL in Sydney again. But you could get a big choice of seats at Hindmarsh and MES!
