Are we going with Noddy again this year? If so, I am now less excited about our chances. We lost a game last night even though we scored 5 tries each. Now let's not kid ourselves, there are going to be a lot of very tight matches this year. We can't afford to miss goals. Surley Merritt needs an opportunity.

Given that Merritt was slotting drop goals from the sideline at the sevens, I would've thought he'd be a good shot if the ball was on a kicking tee. Let's just hope Stuey Raper knows something we don't, or has something up his sleave...

To be fair we were beaten without the gaolkicking.
Our last try was scored at the death and we were beaten then anyway.

The first two he missed were from the sideline (though he did miss them by a mile)

I think Merritt will get the job once the season starts. I reckon it's just Noddy is the incumbent goal kicker so Raper is giving him a shot. Let him practice in nothing games.

Options are

Bird, Merrit, Kimmorley, Dallalana.

Of those only Noddy is guaranteed a starting spot in the side.

Birdy and Merrit are only very young. How ould they handle the extra pressure of goal kicking.

Only one way to find out.
Stuey should have given them a kick in the Trial on Saturday or he should in Mollymook this weekend at least, after all that's what trials are for,Trialling new tactics, plays, players and ideas...

I agree, we've got to trial other goal kicking options. It wouldn't hurt to give these guys a crack at it.

Age has little to do with it. If Merritt has more accuracy he should be doing it. The pressure won't last once he starts slotting them.

Goalkicking is one of our biggest problems. Poor kicking has been a major factor to cost us wins over the last couple of years

We all agree BK was not that flash in 03. Popper is right its a major factor and must be addressed. we must have a 75/80% achievement rate from all angles. Tries are being scored more and more from the sidelines and later in the game as the clock counts down we have to convert our tries every time.Lets get at least two guys in the side that can put them over. Last year at Wharata Oval I watched a prectice kicking duel between Gallen and Anderson Jun and someone else. Gallen was banging them over from anywhere and everywhere, food for thought. Somthing else I overheard at Miranda Motor registry. That Peachy has been getting drunk and some members of his wifes family want to beat the **** out of him. Also Toyota where considering sponsering him but pulled out . This was only an overheard conversation so I guess cant be taken too seriously.

I find all the shit about Peachey hard to believe. From all reports of the trial looks like he's set for a big year this year.

Absolutely. I'd like to see the others kick during the trials to see who is up to it. We can't go with Noddy again this year. I wonder if Johns didn't kick goals whether Noddy would be so keen to do the job. Just seems to me that he is trying to compete with Johns so he feels he has to kick goals as well.

I dont want to belive this stuff about Peachy either. I just want to see him run with the ball. Be great to see him really strech out like he used to!

As I posted on another forum, there maybe another kicker in the midst.
If this guy can cement a spot it would be very benifial to the team & him if he can kick.
Might need a mole that has seen the kicking practice to verify who they have seen.

Well, Kimmorly hasn't been named in the trial against Canberra, so it will be interesting to see who is goalkicking for us.

I don't care who kicks, as long as they get em over!

From what i hear Merrit and Franze are pretty good. They would have used them straight away because Merrit is new to the club (and it would be bad to throw straight into the pressure of goal kicking) and franze is just returning from injury so they wouldnt want more stress on his knee at the moment

Could we get Matt Rodgers back to impart some of his goal kicking tips? Maybe this has already happened. Anyone but Noddy for the goal kicking.
