This is a question abit outta left field, but I have been wondering this for awhile now....

With the pommy national athem being 'God save the Queen'...when the Queen dies and the chances are Charles will be King...will the poms change it, or will they keep it the same, even though the Queen is no more????

:D

With the scandal regarding Prince Charles` alleged bisexuality we might still be playing God Save the Queen when he accedes to the throne . ;-)

duh!!

what an embarrassing national anthem! my philosophy is f**k the queen, save yourself!!

Depends if you sing God Save the Queen or God Save the Team. At least 50% of every crowd I've ever been in has sung the latter.

I just hum the key change before the "Send them victorious" bit, which is about where most people start forgetting the words anyway.

I like the english national anthem. And if prince Charles ever gets the crown the name wont change that much.

From 'God save the Queen' to 'God save the queer'

Priceless

Poor Diana must be turning in her grave. If it's not bad enough that Charles fancied Camilla over her, now she has to find out that he liked a bit of the meat and two veg as well.

As a committed republican, I shall do the same on Saturday as I do at any other occasion.

I shall stand, in respect, for the Australian National Anthem, I shall then sit with arms folded during the rendition of the dirge that masquerades as the British(sic) anthem.

Quite why we should sing in praise of an individual, that through accident of birth, has enjoyed a life of grace and favour that many could only dream of, is totally beyond me.

I'd rather an accident of birth as a Head of State than a President elected through some farcical process which would really only give us a choice between two people with mega bucks behind them, most probaby born into wealth, and who are just as out of touch with reality as the monarchy. Personally, I can't see much of a difference. In Australia, it would just add an additional layer of bureaucracy that we already have too much of.

Anyway, it's not like she has any real power any more? The whole of Great Britain and the rest of the Commonwealth is not her personal fiefdom to order into battle or plunder for personal use. She pays her taxes, attracts a great deal of revenue for tourism and keeps the media and writers gainfully employed with all the scandals that her family get themselves involved in.

Anyone know whats the deal with "Land of Hope and Glory"

in the england a v australia match they referred as the national anthem. But thought that is God Sav ethe Queen.

Anyway it is a truely inspirational song when the players walked out to it on the weekend and wish Australia would steal that for our anthem :) Kind of song you can feel proud to sing.

It's England's national anthem. God Save the Queen is the British national anthem.

If you look at 9's coverage, Carney just put his head down and closed his eyes. Didn't participate cause it wasn't his national anthem, but still paid respect to his team mates.

But they played God Save the Queen for the England Side in the world cup.

I am confused.

England officially doesn't have a national anthem.

Land of Hope and Glory is considered 'unofficially' the English national anthem.
