Rabbitohs match on track for a sell-out
11th June 2009, 18:00 WST

Saturday night's NRL match in Perth represents a chance to turn around the league’s fortunes, according to South Sydney Rabbitohs chief executive Shane Richardson.
Richardson flew into Perth this afternoon with the Rabbitohs squad, which is due to play Melbourne Storm at Members Equity Stadium.
He told press conference involving both teams at Forrest Place that the match was on track to be a sell-out, with more 13,000 tickets sold so far.

13,000+ and forcast is for nice weather so we could see 15,000+ hopefully. The atmosphere at MES is great with less than 10,000 so it is going to be rocking! Best get there early if your paying on the gate!!

Allegedly 18,400 but I doubt it! Probably 16-17,000 is more realistic imo. 3/4 seating 1/4 standing.

I don't know how reliable this is, but I've been told the game is sold out.

Doubt it. I reckon they'll sell around 14,500 tickets but still leaves 4000 walk up places (all though I would imagine they will be general admission only left at this stage).

Its great news and will look good for the Fox cameras live. Stick that in your pipe Gallop! Good thing is there is a game on the CC tomorrow as well so we can have a direct crowd comparison.

I wonder if Gallop has made the trip.

I think Perth should be ahead of Gosford for expansion and this great turnout will be noticed.
The thing is with Gosford when they get a good crowds it always involved the Knights they arent locals, they are Newcastle fans travelling an hour south and the Sydney team fans travelling 1 hour north.
Gosford doesnt have a great corporate base to pull sponsors either.
As long as Perth can fill ME stadium whenever NRL rolls to town they will have a good shot in 2012 when the decision is made

Probably 40% Sth's, 20% Storm rest neutrals.
GO THE STORM!

Right time for me to get my Reds gear on and head to the Brissie for a pint or 6 pre match warm up! Ah the joys of having the NRL in town.......

Atmosphere was awesome. There was only a few vacant seats at the top of the family stand, but from where I was (in the corner where Cronk & Tomaine tries scored at the end), that was the only empty seats I could see.

I've also watched my recording of the Fox Sports telecast, and they commented several times about the size of the crowd and the great atmosphere. A couple of negative points from their commentary though (particularly from Gorden Tallis ... someone not exactly renowned for being too smart!). They seemed surprised when they mentioned that the crowd were following the game (as opposed to a crowd full of people who have no clue about League). Also, when the Rockingham kid was having trouble with the kicking tee (when Sandow was taking a conversion), Tallis said it may have been due to the kid not understanding why they were kicking off a tee and not just kicking it. Andy Raymond then added to that by saying that the goal -in this scenario- would be worth 6 points instead of 2. Those comments annoyed me because they were saying most people in WA are aussie rules fanatics and don't understand League.

Fox said it was sold out so great effort Perth.
On the other hand the game at Gosford wasa ghost town
6000 was announced and that seemed generous.

So we have to areas that would like to be involved in leage in the future stage games on the same night.

1 Central Coast - Close enough for Roosters fans to make the trip and only draw 6000 (how many Central Coast people in that figure??)

2 Perth - Sell Out with the crowd being 99% locals

Exactly Tommy, but the Sydney siders just dont get it. There is an abundance of excuses for them, at the end of the day the people of CC can go and see NRL action every weekend if they choose to do so. The same cannot be said for Perth, which shows in last nights figures is that Perth isnt willing to take a game of NRL for granted unlike the good people of CC and Sydney.

Yeah i could only see a few empty seats there were some spare seats at the top of the main grandstand and along where the ambulance was on the pier st side but where i was sitting on the lord st side was packed.
Tallis and raymond are muppets most people were league or union fans
There were fans from all nrl teams there and lots of people were wearing reds gear. Great atmosphere too.

What a great night (paying for it with a sore head now though!). Great atmosphere, massive crowd, good performance by the Reds and a great game by Sth's and Storm (with the best team winning!)

Either there is no way that MES holds 18,400 or that crowd was about 2,000 below actual figures. I'd have said you could have got around another 1000-1500 people in max. Either way the ground was full and that's all we could ask for.

Dissapointed that the commentary team hardly talked up a Perth NRL team, maybe under orders from Gallop?

LOL at CC and their supposed love of RL! NRL Reds - 2013, join the team!
