Report in the tele that the Gold coast are going to be forced to have a name change and logo as the Redcliffe dolphin claim they own the name and that they believe that they are a chance to bcome an NRL team

so what would be a name you would call the new team

I thought maybe
the Gold Coast Waves
or Cockatoos

Redcliffe is the northern peninsula, on the northern outskirts of Brisvegas, not even sure it's actually part of Brisbane.

I can understand where Redcliffe is coming from, but in my opinion if they want to get up the Gold Coast for having the same name as them, then I believe a few NFL teams might get in on the act and take action against Brisbane, Canberra, Penrith and North Qld for 'stealing' names. ;-) (even though Penrith outdates Carolina by some 30-odd years)

On a more serious note, there is a precedent of a kind...the Gold Coast Seagulls competed in the NSWRL, whilst the Wynnum Seagulls coexisted up the road in Brisbane.

In any case, I reckon the Gold Coast Pirates is a better name!

that's right, knights04

Two league teams steeped in tradition with the same name in the same competition

It wasn't even an issue that Tweed Heads keep their name when they joined the Qld Cup

Actually in that case Penrith would be sueing Carolina because the Penrith had the Panther name first ;-)

According the Sunday Mail Redcliffe are taking the GC franchise to court over the name, it goes on further to say the Competition commitee won't allow the GC franchise in if they continue to call themselves the Dolphins. Unfortunatley that will mean the GC bid team will have no choice but to change the name.

I don't agree, but I'd much rather have a team than not, so if it means finding a new name then so be it. What's the aboriginal word for Dolphin? Use that as the name.

Diehards ;-) .

Ties in with the whole 'Gladiator' name that came second in that poll and pays homage to a Great Queensland Side.

An absolute farce. Just another excuse from the NRL to not include a team that deserves to be admitted. Shame on the NRL. News just don't want another team, and certainly not one that will compete with a team that News owns.

They should not change their name at all. People power is required. Bombard the NRL with emails, bombard the NRL sponsors with email threatening boycotts of their products if the NRL doesn't admit the GC.

No there's even a shire in between the 2.

South of Redcliffe is Pine Rivers Shire. South of PR is Brisbane.
