But why are these awards given out BEFORE the International season has finished? Wouldn't it be best to wait until after the final game of the series before dishing out awards??
Firstly, congratulations to Darren Lockyer. He's certainly had a great year.AUSTRALIA captain Darren Lockyer is the favourite to win the Gillette Golden Boot award as the world's best player at a function in Sydney tonight.
With the Tri-Nations tournament being played in Australia and New Zealand, the awards presentation is being held outside of Britain for the first time since Wally Lewis was crowned the inaugural winner in 1985.
Lockyer previously had the honour bestowed upon him in 2003, while Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler, Stacey Jones, Mal Meninga, Ellery Hanley and Peter Sterling are other past winners.
A world XIII and coach of the year will also be announced, while Greg Inglis is expected to be named the best international newcomer.
