Whether you think he deserves it or not, Benji's been nominated for the Golden Boot...

Golden Boot Vote Seven players are in the running to receive the prestigious Golden Boot Award, which will be presented in Sydney on Saturday 29 November at the annual Players' Association dinner.

The nominations are:

Greg Inglis (Melbourne Storm and Australia)
Brent Kite (Manly Sea Eagles and Australia)
Benji Marshall (Wests Tigers and New Zealand)
Jamie Peacock (Leeds Rhinos and England)
Billy Slater (Melbourne Storm and Australia)
Cameron Smith (Melbourne Storm and Australia)
Johnathan Thurston (North Queensland Cowboys and Australia)
Manu Vatuvei (New Zealand Warriors and New Zealand)

12 Rugby League writers and former international stars, including Wally Lewis, Garry Schofield, Peter Sterling and Hugh McGahan, will each vote for their first, second and third choices. Lewis told Rugby League World earlier this year that winning the inaugural Golden Boot in 1985 was "the greatest honour that I had in Rugby League."

Members of the Totalrl.com website, and the Rleague.com website, based in England and Australia respectively, will hold a vote to give Rugby League supporters on both sides of the world the chance to participate in the Golden Boot voting process.

The direct link to vote on www.rleague.com is:

I couldnt help but laugh at that nomination. Sure he is a brilliant footballer, but please his form for two years has been very low. How the hell did he get nominated for that?

Geez I don't really think any of those nominated have really been all that good at all this season.

I'd give it to Stanley Gene

Most of them were more effective than our entire team put together?

Vatuvei spent half the season out and was still leading key stats areas towards the end of his break.

Inglis drifted in and out of the season, but still scored some of the best trys I've ever seen, and in good quantity. Do you remember him sitting Halatau on his arse on the way to a hattrick against us?

Peacock is easily the best forward in the world in every category, no arguement.

Kite was probably the stand out forward amongst a very weak Australia selection. Standing up in big games probably helped his cause.

Smith was useless as always.

Benji was in and out, but had moments of utter brilliance - and lead his team to the biggest prize in RL.

Thurston wasn't up to his usual standards with injury and Bowen missing... but he was still better than our chaps.

Slater, however, had probably the best individual season I've ever seen. He was brilliant from the WCC right through to the WC Final.
