What did you think of the penalty that brought us to 12-12...you know, that one where Klein ruled Jones was held back when he kicked, when in fact he ran thru the two defenders to chase the kick....ie:wasnt held back at all.

Yeah, it possibly should not have gone to golden point.

The slowmo indicated that Nathan Hindmarsh made a slight play at the man. In real time he would have to be Hudini to avoid contact. I would have been happy with play on. However i can't blame the ref for that one. In fact it is a very consistent call compared to what we have seen in the NRL this year.

Ill give Mason credit for that kick on the run - was a good effort.

Inglis unfortunate in contesting the ball.

If ithe kick went any wider it would most certainly have been a miraculous try to Greg Inglis and Willie Mason would be a hero. However under the circumstances, the better play would have been to take the takle and leave the fancy stuff to the backs. The next play would have caught most of the Kiwis off side.

I had no problem with it. If the defenders had just held their position and/or line then no penalty. But they didn't. One took a step sideways into Jones line with their shoulder and the other put a hand out. The cumulative effect was to take a stride, possibly two off Jones chase. Without that it's more than possible he gets to the ball first and slides over the line for the Try and the lead with only minutes remaining. But then I listened to the neutral commentary on Sky UK so maybe they missed pointing out something obvious. I'll be interestsed to catch up with the Gould spin on the situation when the match appears on BigPond.

The extra time was thriling - yes. I reckon, though, a drwawould have been thrilling if it meant NZ retained the trophy, because the last would have had diffrent nuances on every play, making the roos more desperate, and the Kiwi hits more uplifting. The game was a classic long before extra time.

Besides, I have no probs with extra time to decide a series - only the QLDers baulked at that. To decide a round 13 clash between Souths and Cronulla - whats the point?

I think the only reason we ended up with the latter was because of the former. The ARL/NRL essentially made Golden Point part of the standard laws of the game in Australia to get the rule into Origin over the objections of Queensland. Had the Maroons accepted extra time up front I doubt we would ever have seen it in regular premiership matches. Extra time makes perfect sense for matches where you absolutely have to have a result (finals, grand finals, best of series), it makes only very vague sense in round robin.
