BAD NEWS

Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall, who attended school on the Gold Coast until last year after moving from New Zealand to take up a scholarship, is also off contract next season, along with Queensland Origin centre Willie Tonga.

GOOD NEWS

Elsewhere, Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens yesterday confirmed the signing of Australian Schoolboys rugby union player Jarod Saffy.

It was revealed in yesterday's Herald the club had snared NSW player Tim McGann.

"It's just a case of thinking outside the circle a bit," said Sheens. "Signing a name rugby league player can be an expensive prospect."

The club is also due to announce the signing of former Newcastle and Warriors forward Matt Jobson to a one-year contract.

How is that 'Bad News'.Sure he's off contract but it doesnt mean he's moving at all.Im about 99% confident he will re-sign with us.But at this stage of the season our priority is bringing in new talent and re - signing those who come off contract THIS season.

Once these guys are looked after then Benji will be catered for.

To be fair to Jobson he hasnt played much all season and is with a team who is clearly in crisis.Given a better environment and a stable coach im sure he has great value.

I seem to remember that we bag out players as well, and we are not always right, depends on our mood at the time ;-)

I disagree about Jobson with someone above me.
Yes this year he played with a in termoil club but he still had good players around him and last year he was with the Knights, one of the strongest sides around and he was nothing.

The main reason I wouldnt go for him is that last year when we were down and out he didnt wanna sign with us, but now this year cause he has nothing else and we are doing a little better he is happy to come with us.

hmmmm a bit fickle, then, is he? Still, Sheens must see something worthy in him. Let's hope next season we all do!

Hey Scoop, did you ever audition for 'Gomer Pyle USMC' in another life-time ????

Maybe we are paying Jobson peanuts. Its gotta be a cheap pickup from a struggling club. Plus only a 1 year deal. Let him prove he deserves another contract.
