Yes i do, I only mentioned revenue to show how it's possible monetized form value to NRL.... And that's a low ball number of 'customers' I could foresee over a half million, due to the lack of entertainment. So if we have 550, 000 customers of Digicel paying $11 per month and for the year, you get $72,600,000. pa Now as the NRL is the star feature we could easily ask for $25 to $30 m and Digicel with a $2 dollar increase ( to $13 per month) could be still very profitable, with advertising revenue still to come.

The $7 is for their phone service.

And no, most of that country lives in extreme poverty, so we can't just expect them to pay $13 on top of the $7.

Stop thinking of PNG as if it's like Australia. It's not.

You'd do well to not listen to morons like wb when they post bullshit numbers.

Given his track record at NSW Racing and now the NRL that must make PVL the greatest fumble fan of all.
In fact you`d have to be pretty stupid not to, we should have been doing it for a lot longer than we have.
They are upset league is finally getting similar govt money as afl

Didn’t hear a peep when tamania got one billion to build two stadiums plus another 120 million from the state govt to cover the clubs losses

Dopes don’t realise Perth bid has 500 million in govt support and without which they would get no team

Actually everyone has voiced their disapproval, it just doesn't suit your agenda to admit that.

Yes because of greedy people sticking their hands out expecting taxpayers to fund rich sportspeople. They would have external funding if it wasn't for that greed.

The number of people that follow sport - no matter where or what sport it is - is nearly always very much a minority of the total population. So why do Govt`s throw money at sports, certainly not just for "rich sports people" and you can`t really rely on it to be a vote winner, voters have other priorities.

No. Govt`s throw money at sporting codes because they know that sports are huge and growing industries, classic example of advance economies progressing from primary production through manufacturing and then onto the services industry. The growth of the money generating ability of sports is part and partial of this shift. Hence the investment. There are other externalities of this investment as well.

American states throw billions at nfl stadia

America is one of the richest countries in the world and the nfl one of the biggest sports in the world

They do it because states recognize the value of a team

And yet some people are angry that rugby league is in a similar position where places are so desperate for a team that govts will pay for the privilege

Agree with your comments that having a team in your city attracts tourists and also makes the people of the city generally proud to have a team, especially if it's a winning team. And I know team owners in the US leverage that in getting cities to build them a stadium or else they will relocate But we must also be cautious in not always referencing what the US does given the huge differences we have in populations and wealth and what income the various leagues generate in the US and the global appeal they have compared to RL or AFL.

Also, the major sports in the US play on different fields so you need a purpose built stadium for each. In Australia whether we like it or not, we have 4 football codes of which 3 can be played on a rectangle field and 1 on an oval while cricket also needs and oval. But all can be played on an oval. While we might all want a nice shiny new stadium, governments have to be careful how they spend our money when it comes to stadiums as there are plenty of people who don't follow any of the footy codes or sport and are more interested in Governments building schools and hospitals, things we needs as opposed to stadiums which are a like.

Not the states, usually the cities "council" that do.

And they charge the local residents an extra tax to pay for it.

Not a bad model to be honest, and one that should be looked at here.

It does result in "democracy" in so much as some ratepayers vote it down and the stadia doesn't get built.

We get “charged” taxes to pay for stuff govts spend on so it’s the same

And not every nfl stadium is funded like Vegas is

For example the people of Townsville, Hobart, Perth or Penrith would be invited to vote on a special levy over and above their taxes.

Virtually every sports stadium in the US is funded by this model.

Very few are privately funded or owned.

I like the idea.
