Good news, finally, for Sharks over sponsorship

Tynan Motor Group has stepped up and offered to become Cronulla's major sponsor in a rare piece of positive news for the embattled club.
Fairfax Media can reveal the Sutherland shire car dealership is prepared to fill the void for the only NRL club without a major backer. The Sharks are without a stadium sponsor or a company to plaster on the front of their jerseys after Toyota and Shark Energy Drink parted ways with the club in the off-season.
Cronulla recently secured a sleeve sponsorship but that announcement was put on hold following revelations that up to 14 players were in the sights of ASADA's investigations into alleged use of performance-enhancing substances.
The marketing director and dealer principal for the Chrysler Jeep Dodge Tynan Motor Group is Madeline Tynan, a passionate Sharks supporter whose company sponsors rivals St George Illawarra.
While she is unlikely to run at the upcoming board elections, Tynan has been negotiating a deal with Cronulla's general manager of commercial operations and marketing, Patrick Woods. It is understood Tynan tabled a deal that was being passed on to the board for consideration.
''We're really keen but financially I don't know if we're in a position to do what they are asking,'' Tynan told Fairfax Media.
While leading NRL clubs can charge seven figures for club sponsorship - Parramatta have indicated they want $1.5 million per season for the company replacing Pirtek - the Sharks are in no position to pick and choose after a series of scandals threatened the very existence of the club. The irony is that Tynan's offer must be rubberstamped by a board that she attempted to join herself.
