Good news, finally, for Sharks over sponsorship

Tynan Motor Group has stepped up and offered to become Cronulla's major sponsor in a rare piece of positive news for the embattled club.

Fairfax Media can reveal the Sutherland shire car dealership is prepared to fill the void for the only NRL club without a major backer. The Sharks are without a stadium sponsor or a company to plaster on the front of their jerseys after Toyota and Shark Energy Drink parted ways with the club in the off-season.

Cronulla recently secured a sleeve sponsorship but that announcement was put on hold following revelations that up to 14 players were in the sights of ASADA's investigations into alleged use of performance-enhancing substances.

The marketing director and dealer principal for the Chrysler Jeep Dodge Tynan Motor Group is Madeline Tynan, a passionate Sharks supporter whose company sponsors rivals St George Illawarra.

While she is unlikely to run at the upcoming board elections, Tynan has been negotiating a deal with Cronulla's general manager of commercial operations and marketing, Patrick Woods. It is understood Tynan tabled a deal that was being passed on to the board for consideration.

''We're really keen but financially I don't know if we're in a position to do what they are asking,'' Tynan told Fairfax Media.

While leading NRL clubs can charge seven figures for club sponsorship - Parramatta have indicated they want $1.5 million per season for the company replacing Pirtek - the Sharks are in no position to pick and choose after a series of scandals threatened the very existence of the club. The irony is that Tynan's offer must be rubberstamped by a board that she attempted to join herself.

Isn't she also the bitch that gave us a real hard time with Birdy.

If my falling memory serves me well I am sure she got a hell of a lot of flak in here.

Didn't she make threats with Bird and then pulled the plug on her sponsorship....

I dont trust her.

i dont know mate

Reefy would know about that.

in any case, Tynan is crafty. she was angling for the board last time around when all the shit was going down and didnt get on.
she sponsors the dragons.
i am skeptical of the timing and the motives.

She is a die hard Sharks fan but sponsors the Dragons...

I highly doubt a die hard Sharks fan would do anything but piss on the Dragons.

Yep, RCB. She did go for the Board once and her company also sponsors the Dragons. But it's great to see her support the Sharks. Others have pulled the pin and run and hid under a rock. She has shown courage, confidence and integrity in coming to the fore when others tremble. I hope everybody now buys a car from Tynan's.

Surely you don't believe that people would put their love for their rugby league team before what may be better for their business?

Out of the two clubs, which club would you say is a better opportunity for your business if you were to sponsor one of them.

Looking at it from a businesses point of view.

I think that comment is a little ridiculous.

1) I will never buy another car from Tynan's. Bad experiences I won't go into here.

2) Let's wait till they sign on the dotted line and we see some logos about.

"We're really keen but don't know if financially we are in a position to do what they asking"

Naturally, anything would be better than nothing but there is nothing there yet.

I don't trust her either just quietly. For all I know Tynan's sponsor the Dragons just to piss The Sharks off

I think just having a good news story about the Sharks is a start.

But sponsorships are business decisions, fandom is another thing entirely. The Stains have a larger supporter base, and greater exposure opportunities, but if we come through the ASADA thing relatively unscathed, we'll have a better football team to show off.

No problem with Tynan, and she is prepared to invest in our brand at a time when everything is negative.

Sure she will get a better rate for her investment, but at least she is dipping into her pocket.

As for trusting her, what ulterior motives could there be that involve spending your own coin...?

Surely she could have kept her cash.

that's true spider.

could be a reat time to get in on the round floor. the development is approved. the team..may be good we dont know some players might get banned who knows.

but being the face of the sharks now could be a good thing. probably wouldnt have to spend too much
