WHich, in your opinion, is the best PS2 soccer game?

Are there any with a Madden Franchise sort of deal, where you can sign and fire anyone you want, and build the team the way you want it?

Any of the Pro Evolution series- has the franchise mode and so forth. Easily the best soccer games around although I'm not the biggest gamer. For me it is realistic and fun.

If you like to play the game "hands on" so to speak, then like furry said, PES 5 is definitley your go. But if you really want the power of being able to sign and fire who you please etc. then you should be looking at management games.

I don't own a PS2 so I don't know what management games are available on the console, sorry. Shouldn't be too hard to find out though.

I used to play a lot of Championship Manager back in the day.

But the whole Arsenal-Barca match has got me really pumped.

My plan is to take either Barca or Real Madrid (my two fave teams; and Madrid ONLY because they have Zidane and Figo) and make them into my own vision of a force.

But the last soccer game I played was FIFA 2000 on the PSX, and needless to say it was quite poor lol.

PES 5 or FIFA 2006... both great games.

It's pretty even between them. FIFA's graphics are awesome, along with the atmosphere and the commentary...it actually enhances the gameplay imo. PES, on the other hand certainly lacks in those areas... PES has great gameplay, and FIFA isn't far off at all.

I actually think it evens out. I own both games , can't split them.

I want to play, but I also want to hire and fire whoeever I want.

Say I play as Real Madrid - I want to fire that hack Beckham and hire Ronaldinho..Can I do that in FIFA and PES?

Unlikely on the "playable" games, but here's something you may not have realised.

Say you did have a game that allowed you to hire and fire to your hearts content, chances are it is going to be pretty lifelike. eg:

You fire Beckham - doing this will mean you will have to pay out what is remaining on his contract, thus leaving you no cash to buy Ronaldinho...

Food for thought

You could just alter the team line-ups in either PES or Fifa to throw Ronaldinho in Real Madrid's squad if you just want to play without Beckham. I could understand that ;-)

For mine:

Fifa: is for those who like goals.

Pro Evo: is for those who like the game.

I hated PES when I first started playing it because, much like friday nights, I wasnt scoring. Nil all draws & one - nil loses got tiresome. But when you get your head around the controls & play a more tactic based game (again just like friday nights :D) it beats Fifa hands down. But therein lies the problems. Most people would rather just pick up a game & play & thats where Fifa leaves PES for dead. But it still struggles with the whole "run to the corner, cross, head/cycle, goal" problems it has had since forever.

Is FIFA 2005 any good? Saw it for 19.95 the other day, seemed like a good deal but bought dropkick murphys album instead.
