Good Vibes thoughts

Not sure if anyone else here went/is going...

I know the music is not everyones cup of tea but for mine it is the pick of the festivals in terms of crowd/location (well in Sydney anyway). Its in the park, not too many wankers (although they are mostly pilled up) and fairly easy to get around. Streets ahead of homebake/big day out etc

Anyway, my brief thoughts on what i saw

Salt N Pepa - Pretty good...loads of remixes etc but got the crowd going

Gossip - Unfortunately disppointing. She is a powerful girl, maybe they just wern't suited. The sound didn't seem to help

Naughty by Nature - Best of the bunch by a mile. Absolutely carved it up. It started pissing down during their set but they had the tent going off their nut

Busta - A bit disappointing. Spent too much time talking and wanking off about his past. He was the main guy I went for so was very disappointed

I went to see a few DJ's after that. Scoobie (?) I think were really good....nice set

Missed AVH. Couldn't really be arsed with them

Basement were very solid without being a knockout. A bit like the killers/muse at big day out a few years ago.

All in all a pretty fun night

Cheers,
Moffo

was spewing when the killers originally pulled out but i'd say it was honestly one of the best festivals i've been to. right up there despite the weather. my whole group sucked it up and actually ended up wanting it to rain so we had no fuss standing out watching van helden in it. his set was awesome. Kid Cudi surprised me and the end of his set was pretty epic IMO. I didn't think too much of Salt N Pepa or Gossip. We went over to Aston Shuffle at the end pretty much run off our feet by then and danced non stop for another hour...we basically limped to the buses through all the mud. It was all pretty fun to be honest but i ended up filthy.

I seen quite a few wankers though. Some hero decided to walk in my direction just to shoulder barge me outta the way when he was just walking though and there was a huge gap next to me. And alot of guys just eyeing you off looking to start something I felt. I didn't really care too much about that I was just having a blast and I was with a pretty big group anyway so it was all good.

Within the first 4 hours (including before good vibes even started), I seen 3 people OD'ing. I helped one chick out near the main stage. Lucky she was pretty close to paramedics and her friend was with her so hopefully she ended up ok. The worst one was at hungry jacks before good vibes even started at 11.30am...apparently the chick had dumped 4 pills already and she vomited on the table, fell off her seat and looked pretty lifeless on the ground. She looked in a pretty bad way while we were there. Heaps of people getting arrested including some guy that decided to run away from a copper in the toilet area only to be crash tackled into the fence haha.

Not much point complaining about the rain I thought...it was something different (well not in good vibes' case lol) and it made a bit of a different atmosphere. I didn't think it phased too many other people either...everyone was just having fun.

Funniest thing i seen was some guy getting egged on by about 200 people to do a mud dive at about 4pm in the arvo. He did it, face planted, and got up absolutely covered in mud. Probably not the most comfortable way to spend the next 6 hours of the day but funny for everyone watching.

haha yeh i saw a few people sliding through the mud. i think you are right, the rain probably added to the atmosphere a little. it was torrential there for a while though and made things a bit uncomfortable

i guess it depends where you were at. we spent most of our time watching the acts and thought the crowds were ok. i think most of the wankers were more sitting around and just watching people. its hard to avoid the tools with their tops off etc at these sort of events

i think the venue itself makes it so much better. actually feels like a festival as opposed to the concrete jungle that is bdo and the over zealous security at homebake. i just couldn't believe how much more relaxed the police were at good vibes....i really didn't see much of them at all. i think it just makes for a more relaxed atmosphere. not sure if i'd go back to homebake after the over the top security antics last year

yeh slightly regret not seeing AVH now but ah well, can't fit it all in.

yeah there was a bit of both really...some guys would be really friendly with ya have a chat in the middle of an act or at the bar line and some were just total wankers. I spent most of the day watching artists though...only time we really sat around was at the start of the day while it was building up. Yeah during AVH the rain was pretty bad. I missed most of the later shower coz I was in star bar watching aston shuffle but i looked outside and it was pouring down. The most annoying thing was walking out through the slush with people deliberately kicking mud and water onto you. Like i didn't mind getting dirty but when it isn't necessary like that it pisses me off a bit. And yeah I agree with the venue...it is a really good place for a festival. plenty of trees and grass so you can sit down easily. Can't complain about anything to do with the venue or organisation of the event really. If the Killers didn't pull out I wouldn't have seen AVH so i'm not that dissapointed after all considering how much i enjoyed the AVH set.

It was an ok day, I enjoyed BDO more than this but I didn't hate it!

Gym Class heroes were my highlight, I ended up not bothering to see SnP because i Was enjoying them so much.

My highlight with maybe kid cudi tied!

Chuckie was good, nbn were good, got the sh*ts with busta and left.

missed avh but need them enough times, Basement jaxx were fun! I can't believed they played the whole festival next day in perth!

No-one's mentioned Art vs Science, who are one of the premier live acts going around. Great festival band.

Armand was a bit sh*t, Basement Jaxx were ok. Naughty by Nature surprised me no end.

I was pissed off because Killers and Friendly Fires were the bands I looked out for when booking tickets.

I personally wouldnt like good vibes, sh*t music (to my tastes anyway), but the location really does help a festival. I love homebake, which unfortunately has crap lineups often, because it is also in a great location for a festival. Whereas the concrete jungle of BDO seems to magnify the heat/crowd.

i was a bit the same red bear...thing with festivals though is that having a good time with mates beats all other concerns. so if you are in a nice spot, not loaded with dickheads....i can live with an average line up

that said, naughty by nature were unbelievable. absolutely blew the roof off. great atmosphere

what was up with busta? he was really disappointing

Only person I was interested in seeing was Dave Seaman, so I passed.

Side shows in clubs have always been my thing because festivals have such short sets and 90% of the music isnt to my taste.

Steve Lawler at Arthouse this weekend should be mental. Wish I was going to that.

Hernan Cattaneo in April looks like it could be a go though :D
