Google + Photos (backup??!!??!!)

Is anyone familiar with this that can help..

My phones got to go in to get repaired, and ive got all my photos backed up
on Google+ photos. The repairs guys have to wipe the photos from my phone..
But if I delete a pic from my phone gallery, it deletes from google photos too..

What am I doing wrong? How can i wipe my phone pics, but keep them all in google pics and then maybe move them all back into phone gallery when I get repaired phone back?

Or.. How do I save all my pics on my phone using Google Photos into a my pictures album on my desktop, as I cant connect phone via usb to desktop because that part of the phone is broken.

what about conneciting to you desktop via wireless network

Drop box is a good alternative. Another option I use for independent backup is photobucket. It's pretty much one of (if not) the best free album services online.

With Google photos, if I have them backed up with that.. and I put my sim card into a new phone and log into my Google account, will all those photos show up on my new phone?
