Gould on Newcastle without Joey

"Hooker Danny Buderus is igniting Ben Kennedy's and Adam MacDougall's skills down the short sides."

For someone who has been a fan of the Knights for a a number of years, I am guilty of not paying attention to individual facets of the game.

However on Sunday afternoon I did get the sense that the left side of the field looked very dangerous with BK lurking out wide with Doogs. I've also noticed Abraham do this in the past games, with some success.

I usually don't pay that much attention to Gould but the article was interesting, thanks for posting the link roopy.

I thought he hit the nail right on the head, the teams attacking skills were directionless without the Great one, now thats he's out for a while the team have decided to use their own brains.
When Joey comes back he may have to change his style of play to accomadate this, I think if he is willing to do this ,we will have an even better team than ever, probably our best yet.

The Knights play short sides a lot with BK, Abes and Buderus. It has nothing to do with Johns not being there, and more to do with the fact that they were targeting and trying to isolate Blacklock and MacDougall.

I do agree that it appears as though the side is improving. I am disappointed that Gould failed to explain why the defence has improved so much. I am of the opinion that it has a lot to do with Simpson and Buderus working together again, and the added bonus of MacDougall in the centres.

I once heard Gould comment that you can’t fix defence in one week. Well I guess that is why he didn’t comment. I don’t think he knows why.

The one thing that is constantly overlooked about the Knights is the fact that we tend to defend well only when we have good ball control on attack and we are disciplined in defence and dont give away penalties.

It is hard to score against a side that never drops the ball and kick chases well; same as it is hard to score against a side that doesn’t concede penalties. Those two elements are too often overlooked.

If we go 50/50 with penalties, and we get the line share of possession, we will win the comp.

-GS.

Fact is we always play the blind, ALWAYS. So we are doing nothing new here. we have always played our backrowers down the blind. BK, simmo and Abraham's line breaks are always out wide our down the blind.

Agreed - I didn't mean to suggest that this is a post-Joey-injury phenomenon.

Is Gould usually anti-Newcastle?

Like I said, I don't usually pay much attention to Gould's ramblings!

i actually red the article more than once, just to check that he was actually talking about the knights. i mean this is gus we are talking about...normally so pro roosters and he has criticised us more than once...either he is turning over a new leaf and seeing the knights as we all see them, or he had a moment of madness and will next week be back to criticising every other team but the roosers.

Come on guys it is: "Let's get on the bandwagon Phill"

Lets just hope that he shuts his guts at the start of next season, I for one was not happy about his comments months before there was an issue in the media about them, I mean what a hide, telling Hagan how to play Johns and instructing Johns as to how he wanted to see him play for Newcastle Pfffft!!!!!!!! Talk about a delusions of grandeur.

I think AJ was a legend for telling him to shut up.

It is a shame that the people that thought Johns was being a princess didnt know the history.

Anyway.....breathe.
