Graham fields Country call-up Centre replaces an injured Tahu

Canberra Raiders centre Phil Graham will fulfil a childhood dream on Thursday when he makes his representative debut for NSW Country. Graham, 25, received a phone call on Sunday night after Paramatta Eel Timana Tahu was ruled out with a hamstring strain.
Country team doctor Hugh Hazard excused Tahu from attending yesterday's medical because he had seen the injury occur and was confident he would be unfit to play.
Selectors then called Graham into the side to make his representative debut alongside Brett Stewart, Josh Morris, Greg Bird, Luke Douglas, Ben Cross and Clint Newton.
Graham said he was shocked to be selected, especially after being told no other Raiders had made the team.
"I think everyone dreams about it when they're kids. I didn't know if it was going to happen but it's just great to be here," Graham said yesterday. "I was just sitting at home last night [and] got the call. I was pretty shocked, I wasn't really expecting it.
"I thought maybe Alan Tongue would've been a chance, he's been playing awesome and he's probably our best player week in, week out."
West Tamworth junior Graham was selected ahead of Parramatta fullback Luke Burt and Manly winger Chris Hicks because Country coach Craig Bellamy didn't want to put players out of position.
"We wanted to put a centre in there, and Phil's been playing pretty good with Canberra, so he gets the nod," Bellamy said.
The pacy Graham is a noted try-scorer his improved defence was the key to his selection.
Graham will partner Melbourne's Anthony Quinn in the centres and oppose City centres Luke Lewis and Dean Collis.
"I'm very excited, it's only a short week but I'm looking forward to it and just want to give it my best shot," he said.
"I haven't been able to buy a try lately but it's just one of those things of right place at the right time."
Graham said he was relishing being among the game's elite.
Matt Cooper, Jamie Lyon and Matt King are the leading candidates to wear the NSW centre jerseys.
"There's a lot of good players in this team so it's just an honour to be here and hopefully I'll learn some stuff in the next two days off them," he said. "I'll see what the coach has got to say and hopefully get out there and have a good game."
Meanwhile scans yesterday revealed Raiders winger Brett Kelly has badly torn ligaments in his right ankle and is expected to miss six weeks.
Raiders rehabilitation officer Matt Ford said Kelly had torn his lateral ligaments during Saturday's 34-18 win over Penrith.
"Six weeks is probably the best-case scenario. There's always an opportunity he'll recover a little bit quicker," Ford said.
Raiders coach Neil Henry will today name either an 18 or 19-man squad to play Manly on Saturday.
Henry said pivot Todd Carney, prop Michael Weyman, second-rower Glen Turner, hooker Andrew Dunemann and wing David Howell were all chances to return after missing the Penrith match.
