Open for nominations, with voting to start on Tuesday.

The advance poll question is: should Mal Meninga go straight through, with the poll to decide his centre partner?

By the way, the official 20 year team had Mal Meninga and Peter Jackson in the centres.

Peter Jackson
Laurie Daley (though personally I don't think he should be included here as he's a shoe-in for 5/8th, and deservedly so).
Ruben Wiki (again, might be in the 2nd row).
Kenny and Mullins (if Noa gets the other wing spot).
Paul Martin (I'm pretty sure he was a center, not a winger, but don't quote me on that)
Matt Wood (Was he a center or just a winger?)
Albert Fulivai

That list proves that besides Mal and maybe Jackson, we have had no real "great" centres in our club for 20 years. That's kinda sad.

Peter Jackson - good option
Laurie Daley - was an excellent center, could be played here with O'Sullivan at 5/8.
Ruben Wiki - second rower for mine, was a good center but not in the class of Daley or Jackson
Kenny and Mullins - again it would come down to how you wanna pick the team, performances in a position or the better player???
Paul Martin & Matt Wood - maybe in the all time Raiders C or D squad
Albert Fulivai - scored 10 tries in a season once, by the twisted logic shown in earlier threads he should of been a nominee for winger.

J-Lo - scored a hat trick at center in 2001, should get a nomination
David Boyle - Mals replacement, nuff said
Ricky Stuart - played a game at center in under 10s. could be shifted here to accomodate for Steve Stone at half.
Jason Croker - played many games at center

Ed... are you trying to fill in for Quinny's absence as well?

Some of those comments did come off very Quinny like didn't they?? Thats a worry.

I was a member of the Jamaal fan club long before Quinn though, being a Kiwi I've been his number one fan since 2000!!!!!!!

I voted yes - BUT I'd also like to see how MANY votes our top guys get.... may make it more interesting and definitive reading to see Mal got 100% of the vote, Ferguson 85% etc etc.

As for nominations:
Meninga (if not auto)
Wiki (personally he was a brilliant centre)
Jackson
Mullins
Croker (even though he might get a starting spot elsewhere)
and I can't really comment on the pre-1987 guys.

Croker = not a centre. i've said it before, i'll say it again: the only time he regularly played centre was in 2002, and he was crap there, like an extra forward. the thing about the centre spot, is that we've never been able to fill Mal's boots - it was Boyle and Wiki for a while, then Williamson and Perason came along, as well as Shane Kelly and David Schrader. and if you don't look at pre-1987 (i personally wouldn't bother), then your only left with 87-94, which was mostly Mal, Daley and Jackson, and one season each for Mullins and Wiki (but of course Wiki had many more great seasons at centre, whereas '93 was pretty much Mullins only time when he was a regular centre)

An absolute shoe in is Mal IMO. He dominated the game like no one else and revolutionised the Raiders.

Daley definitely has to be there - he was a GF winning centre remember! (And yes, I know it means we have a 'vacant' five eighth position if that is the case).

Thickos... no, no you are way off the mark! Laurie MUST be in 5/8th.... and in my opinion, people should go back and look at the record of Peter Jackson for centre. He was a terrific player and an Australian rep in the centres.

Anyway, it looks like Noa will win the other winger spot at this stage. I will put Mullins and Nagas in for the "other" centre vote if this happens.

Daley must be selected at 5/8. He is one of the best ever at pivot and there should be no comprimise.

My apologies for being misinterpreted. I agree he should be 5/8 - but he should not be excluded from the centre poll.
