The Shawshank Redemption: The runaway winner of the last two LU's Top 50 movies, and a arguably the greatest adaptation of at Steven King story.

The Great Escape: A beloved classic that features one of the most memorable moments in cinema history.

Full Metal Jacket: Kubrick's cerebral, brutal look at the Vietnam War - this wartime piece of genius is a perennial favourite.

Toy Story: Making animation cool again, the story of Buzz Lightyear and Sheriff Woody was a hit with children and adults alike.

Glory: One I've not seen, so I can't provide much insight. A 1989 film about one of the first all African-American units in the United States Civil War. Denzel was in it, so I don't doubt it was moving and epic.

The second half of Full Metal Jacket always bugged me. The first 'movie' was wonderful - the second felt just a little bit like a cheeseball action movie at points.

I can't believe GLORY got no votes. this was the only pole where I had to hesitate. The great escape is a classic movie too, though the American bullsh*t in the movie makes it third. Glory a close second to Shawshank though.
