Greg Bird

There's a nice piece on the much maligned Greg Bird in the Tele today. He's using his time out of the game to work with the Starlight Foundation, organising for sick kiddies to attend games and hospital visits etc.

Well done to the young man.

Yeah, it was pleasing to see that about Birdy. His attitude seems to have improved heaps. :D

Good to see his fixing his attitude up :D . Not sure though if it will be rewarded after his suspension with a 1st grade spot again. Does anyone think Gallen is the solution to the 5/8 problem?

I think if he hangs around more mature people, kids, he will probably improve as a person & a player.

Hopefully in Flegg

Interesting that he waited to be suspended to do some charity work and interesting that he felt compelled to tell the media about it.

Maybe it was the suspension that helped him wake up to himself.

I think it's great what he is doing, as long as it ins't a ploy to get himself in back in the good books. But if he is genuinly remorseful and wants to give something back to the community then he needs to be respected for that.

Gallen isnt the answer to 5/8. No one we have tried there has been the answer. We need someone who can operate down the right and can deliver quality ball to Vagana while Kimmorley sticks to the left with his already est combination with Bailey. The only possible candidate for this is Russ Aitken. I would love to see what type of combination Aitken and Vagana could strike up. I am hoping that Russ will get a run before the end of the year, but realistically i think Raper will let him see out the year in PL unless injuries prevail.

Hands up who thinks he initiated all this charity work on his own accord!

Good luck to him if he really has, but I'd be willing to be it was all the idea of his manager.

Of course it was the idea of his manager! And no doubt the manager rang up the Sunday Telegraph and told them to run the story, including the gooey little photograph of the kids trying to teach Bird how to colour between the lines.

If there was any doubt that his management isnt behind the placing of the story it is removed in the last line "Bird's management group, Pacific Sports Management, hope the alliance will be long lasting."

It's tacky and contrived. Get a load of this quote: "A suspension is nothing compared to what they've had to go through"

Oh God, someone pass me the tissues! I'm breaking down here!

Hmmm. Perhaps you're right. Birdy doesn't seem to be someone who can think for himself. I wonder how many hospital visits Birdy has made pre-suspension? :?

C'mon guys. Does it matter who initiated the community work he is doing? He is doing it. I am sure that he is remorseful for what happened. He is taking his punishment, what do you want from him?

I thought we supported our players here. Sure we critisise them too but at the end of the day, I can't find critisism for a guy that is taking the time to work with the Starlight Foundation. No matter who organised it.

I hope he comes back in Rd. 15 and has a blinder. If not then, then whenever he does come back, and he will.

 Well done Greg Bird

Like alot of clubs im guessing most of our players do visit hospitals and help out with chariries and stuff but it doesnt get recognised. Of course we dont know what Bird has done in relation to this but i am sure it wouldnt be the first time he has helped out a good cause.
While this time seems to stem from an unsavoury incident which is unfortunate at least he is out there trying to do something even if it is to repair his battered ego. Lets hope he sticks to his word and he continues his alliance with starlight. Of course it probably would have been better if the paper hadnt reported it but you cant blame his manager for doing what he did. He thinks it was in the best interests of his client.

Very contrived!. I dont like to see kids and parents being used like this by player management. If serious he would have kept it to himself . I havent heard of him offering himself to the Shire junior leauge's . Maybe he could be helping out the under 15's with their tackling tactics and stuff. I dont see anything like that. If ur reading this Greg its Wed/ Fri nights at Anzac oval in Engardine 6.30( ask for Warren, he is the coach that puts in every week and weekend for the boys). Greg Bird has equalled the club record for tries and conversions at the Sharks , we all know how good he can be . Im ticking off the weeks till he gets back.

Practice kicking 40/20's and if he kicks and plays well in Flegg/PL upon returning from suspension, he may be considered for first grade.
I am hoping the side is going so well, that no place in the top 17 can be found.
