Gus

So reports are that Gus is interested in looking at the NSW Origin gig once again.

Obviously a few fans have their reservations with Gus having a pretty important and time consuming gig at Penrith as well as media commitments. I was under the impression he would be reviewing his commentary and media commitments at the end of this year with his contract up?

If he was to drop his media commitments, I'd be fine with him taking the Origin role. He'd certainly gain even more sway with attracting talent.

If you've been living under a rock or just avoiding any Penrith news after our display on the weekend:

With no channel 9 yes. It could be good to get the coaching bug out of his system. With his current workload no chance. merchandise & membership managers need to be replaced. Some terrible players need to go. Plenty of problems to be fixed

Are we just assuming he would stay with us? I would be ok with him coaching NSW but would he be able to do that full time if he's still affiliated with the Panthers?

I want him to do both. I was under the impression he would be giving up the commentary after this contract.

Channel 9 might not have the TV rights next year (fingers crossed), so that leaves some space for him to do it

Yeah I was under the impression he'd be giving away the commentary for now when his contract was up.

Also it sounds like the NSWRL are fine to put aside the 'no club affiliation' criteria given they were going to give Sticky the gig again.

I think dropping his commentary duties (I'm sure he'd still keep a column) and taking the Origin team would be a positive step for Penrith.

Are Shaun and Phil going to be replaced?

Phil went to Ticketek IIRC, event manager at Allianz.

It is a bit concerning that they both left within weeks of each other. The big question is did they leave on their own accord, or were they pushed? Now IF they were pushed, do the Panthers have a plan in place?

my concern with merchandising has been there for a while. There has been a real down sizing in this area.We need this area to work as it is the money spinner for us.Shaun was the best in the business and had grown this area to double the size when he joined the club.
Lets hope the current management dontlet it fal to the 90s era when it was a mini suprmarket as well

They already have. The shop in the club is 1/5th the size as the shop in high street and Westfield's. It's got bugger all stock in there. They are giving away tickets if you spend $50 in Nepean Square. So it doesn't look good for memberships next year if it's got to that level

The rent that Westfields charge is astronomical though, I very much doubt that the volume of business that went through that place made it a profitable venture.

True but they had the shop on High St. That would of been cheaper. The club isn't so bad just the size. It's tiny has bugger all stock on show. They could of moved it there just made it bigger.

Yes I wondered what happened to the merchandise outlet.

They are selling off clubs. Even the most profitable club in the group is being sold. The same happened to Tabcorp under Warren Wilson.

They seem intent on getting smaller. So no wonder the merchandise division has gone.

I'll give you the tip - Shaun and Phil won't be replaced.

The concern i always had with Gus was the business side of football. The player side we knew he could handle the recruiting side we knew he could handle.I am concerned how he is citting ties with the fan based things very much as it would have been in 1991.
No official fan forum
No supporters buses next year
In a modern era more should be done to mingle the players and fans. Only time will tell if the new way is a good way

Gus is no longer in touch with reality. Have seen him stroll into Wolves home games strutting around like the King he thinks he is. The bloke is football smart, no denying that. Not sure how people smart he is though. Seen him walk straight past the kids at Wolves games without even acknowledging their "Hi Gus" or whatever. Not a great way to inspire the fans.

Hard to argue with the last 2 posts. The amount of people in Penrith not going for Penrith is a concern. They are lost. We need to change it for the next generation. So far nothing is changing to win over the next generation.

My concerns exactly.
In regards to football he is a genius, in terms of business and running a club, well we can't really say he's no good but he has no experience.

What he has brought is ambition, in spades. First things first I want a winning footy team. If he can achieve that, the fans will come.
