Hages warns Hayne - Parramatta Advertiser

Bart, the problem I have with Hagan's reply is it once again, throws us into the media in a negative spotlight.
I'd prefer it to have been done behind closed doors actually.

I can see your point. Not sure any negative will come out of hages setting the public side of Hayne's quotes straight though.

But hopefully he's done both. I see that as the best way, for a coach to re-assert his strength and control (which the Jarryd quote served to publically question) and then also behind closed doors to set the whole team on track for how to handle issues like that better in the future.

We have been a bit of a shambles as a club this season from the outside it seems, compared to how unified and composed other clubs seem - and they're dealing with the same media as our players and club, so it's not like it's rocket science. But I guess sometimes the reminder proves necessary, as in this case?

IMO, it just adds fuel to a 'star player in conflict with coach' scenario.

Hagan certainly could have chosen his words more carefully IMO.

Problem for Hagan would be he'd have to come up with some new words, couldn't cut and paste previous comments.

I think the most important part of this whole saga has been missed by most of the posts in this thread.

Hagan and Hayne hadn't actually spoken (at the time of going to press).

PARRAMATTA Eels coach Michael Hagan will tell young star Jarryd Hayne not to whinge to the media after his "I don't want to be on the wing" comments.

"If he needed to talk to me about that, I'm happy to talk to him, like anyone else," Hagan told the Advertiser.
"In the end he's a State of Origin winger. I didn't see him complaining to Craig Bellamy about being picked on the wing for NSW."

So what we actually have is:
a) Player tells media BEFORE coach
b) Coach tells media BEFORE player

Seems like a MAJOR communication problem and its no longer about behind closed doors, etc.

Lets look at the bigger picture of the year in regards to communications:
- players spray each other for poor form (Hindy v Hayne)
- ZERO communication from on-field leader when on-field
- players/coach use media to communicate
- players act more like strangers than team mates on the field

Add to this the various dramas that occurred in the off/pre-season as well as Smiths departure and I can think of only one thing:

"CLUB IN CRISIS"

"CLUB IN CRISIS"

like I said Hayne and Hagan are having a schoolboy tanty in the media

I wish both of them would grow the f*** up and get on with worrying about bigger issues like their future employment cause if both were released tomorrow I'd just about have a party

Hayne needs to learn the cliches. He should not be saying stuff. The problem with having a say as a league player is there is only about two of you (Willy & Hayne) - and the media will come back time and time again.

Brain dead is the way we want our star.

I'm sure their major sponsor would of been more happy if Aiton had confronted Elliot at a local chemist while they were both trying to buy their product...

but anyway...

I don't think we missed that ;-)

Hopefully Hagan has been spending that much time under the media's scrutiny this week that he forgets to tell the boys to 'take it easy' against Souths!

Spot on.

I was very dissapointed with Hayne's whinge, but fmd Hagan is an absolute tool.

Hagan you are the coach of our proud club, sort it out behind closed doors you idiot not through the bloody paper.

Talk about setting an example....

The last 2 team performances by Parra have been atrocious - I'd give Hagan some credit if he admitted that fact rather than crap on about Hayne or about how they really weren't so bad cause they only just lost .........get rid of the gimp for gods sake .

I watched Hayne pretty closely last sunday and I could tell that he was really p#ssed off with how the team was going.
I like his passion - something a lot of the other team members could do with. He doesnt mind playing on the wing in SOO because he actually gets the ball in good space. At parra his job is only to make metres from dummy half.

What?

It reads as if Hagan is a moron.
'uhhhh - he played wing for the SoO team... uhhhh'

Newsflash Michael: So did Tahu - yet you still picked him in the centres.
Mateo, Hayne and Inu are our 3 best attacking weapons. Just because Hayne hasn't been the best centre in the world this year (in his first season in the position) is no reason not to pick him there. He's been strong - got outplayed by Hodges, but has generally looked dangerous in the spot.

The only thing that he got right was to say 'we might expect more from a couple of players' - but then again, if a team comes out flat as a tack to start the game, whose fault is that?
If you payed me to coach the squad and they came out flat and ordinary, I think I might shoulder some of the blame for preparing them poorly.

Actually the irony of this is that one of the main reasons Tahu left Newcastle was because Hagan wouldnt play him in the centres.

Must have missed that passion while watching his kick returns... I'm just hoping he turns whatever passion drives him to argue with touchies and talk to the media into quality performance for us on the paddock this weekend. It's time Jarryd, it's time.
