Pretty sure at the completion of the game they didn't draw and they certainly didn't lose, so I would have thought that leaves only one other option. Doesn't matter how you do it, a win's a win ...

Yeah, see... you're an idiot. If you'd ever played a season and had it come down to penalties, you'd know that the adage of 'a win's a win' is absolute bullsh*t. Sure, it's better to 'win' penalties than to lose them - but it's no different to a coin toss or drawing straws at the end of a game.
