I hate the Jets but even I feel sorry for them now... one of the most diabolical championship defence efforts in living memory in Australian Sport.

It's just incredible. I'm lost for words with the amount of bad luck the Jets have had. Last year it was us scoring late and having all the luck, this year it's the complete and utter opposite.

After perusing through my statistics (I like a good statistic or two), the differences between the Jets Championship of 07/08 and the failure of the 08/09 campaign could best be summed up with the following facts.

07/08:

Goals scored from the 70th minute --> = 10
Goals conceded from the 70th minute --> = 6

08/09:

Goals scored from the 70th minute --> = 4
Goals conceded from the 70th minute --> = 12

You need luck to win a championship and perhaps this year it might be the Mariners turn considering they appear to be the champions of the late finish.

As a bit of a side note, at least with the Jets losing, it now means Sydney are outside the top four. If the top four stayed the way it is now, I wouldn't mind too much

I like seeing those sorts of observations - well in locky24. Wheelhouse should not have seen that 2nd yellow and certainly shouldn't have been confined to the sheds.

Ridiculous stuff but typical of Newie's luck in 08/09. Big freefall... wonder if they can turn it around against us in two weeks time?

Locky, that is the sort of graciousness in victory that sadly we don't see too much of in Australian sporting circles these days. Congrats on the win, but couldn't you have scored the "winner" in say the 60th minute, instead of the heartbreak of yet another injury time concede?
